As someone who was on the vet radio channel, “hes up - pause - looks fine” was a perfect example of the reaction. Everyone was ready to go (saw a few trucks take off) then the pair kind of popped up and went off when everyone was like “well, alright”
Racehorses always try to get up and run, I think it’s simply in a horses DNA to try to keep running. It’s good to know that there were so many vets on site, but I’m not sure that seeing a horse get up and continue on means they are ok.
Fantastic riding! Fantastic horses! (Meade)
FWIW I had a great viewing spot on XC (between fences 4 and 20 in the 4*) and was in the company of two very accomplished vets who were there just as spectators. As part of chit chatting I asked what they would do if a horse went down in front of them. They both said “stay out of the way of the official responding vets, who are nearby “.
I thought the whole weekend went very well. Neither equine nor human ambulances were deployed. Some flags took a beating though!!
Pretty sure this rule is the same across the board. That would not be a fall in a show jumping jump off either.
maybe that is why non eventers should just butt out.
Video recap of the winner:
The horse popped up and looked bright and moved off soundly, all good. His riding was far scarier at other fences than that one.
Remember Tami’s gray mare ( I think it was Tami) who just landed wrong and broke her pastern, if memory serves. Not every OOF WOW OK is something completely terrible. As we saw, Phantom was full of beans on Sunday.
CMH automatically renewed my Badminton TV subscription for what I paid for it last year, around $25.00. I don’t subscribe to CMH, only USEF and Badminton,
I think if you go to the Badminton website you can subscribe to Badminton TV there, or at least find out how to subscribe.
I have some free time the next few days if anyone has any burning questions they want to ask about Kentucky that I can try to answer! Was a fabulous weekend with minimal drama and all went smoothly!
Phew we’re home, luckily it was a smooth drive, just very very long looking forward to live streaming it from my couch next year instead of going in person. That drive is just exhausting.
My cat Sully is very excited about the correct connect bag he thinks I got for him
@skydy Sadly Badminton TV is now CMH so expect the habitual mishaps, failures and frustration.
It’s sort of amazing how they have made that their business model.
Well, crap
Whoa. There are plenty of eventers and actual people/officals/ vets working at KYLR that agree it was very bad optics, especially the way the prior fences went. Everyone is thrilled that for the first time in 20 years, every horse walked off on their own.
I’ll bite!! Tell us (what you can) about your favourite (or memorable) moments from the weekend? You have such a unique perspective looking at it from the work side of things and I’d love to hear it!
Wow.
That sentence really gives me pause.
How much everyone roots for each other and helps each other at an event like this. A friend braided my forelocks because I’m shit at it. My quarter mark brushes were used by multiple people, some of which I taught to quarter mark. A groom came whipping into my barn looking for boots for her 5* horse, and we buzzed down to my trailer to get some spares and tacked the horse together. Coffees flowed by whoever knew the others’ coffee orders. “Good lucks” and “great jobs” shouted out by everyone. Grooms jackets that are nicer than anything we could ever buy were provided by Redingote and so many first time grooms and old timers were thrilled to have a momento. Any time tears were shed, there was a shoulder there to cry on. It’s just the very best community.
You can get streaming and replays of USEF events for $25/year - just change your USEF membership from Fan to Subscriber. That’s what I did, because there’s no way I’m spending $300 to watch.
Thank you! This is exactly what my heart needed this evening.
