I knew me & Ariel were the same and I laughed to myself when I read this “late 30s!!! “ …and then I realized…… yes these years just keep creeping in on us
Thank you! I hadn’t connected the name change so I wondered who this rider was that I hadn’t head of .
if i understand correctly, young rider in this context means under 21. you can compete in “young riders” until 21 years old. and there’s the development team of young riders - all under 21. so the highest place young rider would be the highest place individual under 21 years old.
“a known issue for a while” - known by whom? known just by you? i watched bendigo at kentucky in 2021 and was impressed by the pair.
Slightly off topic…Tamie was recently interviewed on the Practical Horseman podcast and made some interesting points about discussion of banning hormone therapies for Olympic athletes in the future, and the rules that prohibit athletes with hormone levels above/below __ number from competing.
She argued that if hormone replacement therapy were banned, it could end the Olympic careers of menopausal and post menopausal riders. Or, intentionally subject them to more injury risk (due to bone density loss, for example).
It’s a good point. Equestrian disciplines aren’t the only ones where you may have post-menopausal women competing. Shooting and sailing also regularly have older athletes.
Thank you, that makes sense! I was truly boggled. I’m an adult beginner who didn’t “grow up” with horses so there is a lot I don’t know!
After Kentucky, Boyd Martin jumped up to the top of the FEI rider list to number one in the world. Congrats to him!!

I would think if anyone would know, CantFindMyWhip would. .
He has 3 absolutely top caliber horses and is riding the pants off all of them (in the best way). His show jumping is an absolute delight to watch these days and it is clear he has worked very hard with Peter and others to really up his game. Very happy for him.
why is that?
so thrilled for Boyd!
Considering peri menopause is very common starting in the 40s when HRT is often started this would affect a lot of people.
…and if the ostensible purpose is a not very subtle hunt for trans athletes, riding is the only (maybe sailing?) event where we compete head-to-head anyway. It’s a total waste of ink, time, and money.
Good point. We’re already there.
I’m very late on this, once I got home from KY it was a rush to study for my very last final exam ever. But I’m finally caught up on the thread and wanted to share some of my favorite pics I got over the week. We got there Tues, left Monday.
The jog pics are from the Sun jog.
I had to laugh and include the pics of Boyd that one of the teenage girls that was with us requested, including at the GP when he was sitting a couple rows ahead of us with his family. They are so adorable though.
It was really fun watching the SJ from the tent on the opposite side of the ring from the stands though. Also free food, which was quite good.
We will be back doing the same thing next year! Volunteering is the best.
Those are great photos!
I’m sort of amazed that Boyd had the energy to stay and watch the night class after he rode three around that cross country course on Saturday.
Total busman’s holiday. Lol.
Also, who is that in the sixth photo? That horse is WAY above the jump!!

Looks like it could be Greya and Kent in the jump off, maybe?
Is that one of Rene Dittmer’s?
