Kentucky 2025

That’s great! I hope it is successful, though sad to hear something like this is even necessary.

I reckon that any horse that collapses, even if the cause is unidentified, will be captured in this rule change and therefore have a 7 day stand down even if their blood is clean.

I do think that it’s a bit difficult to make the horse leave the show. One could find themselves scrambling to get the horse off grounds, especially at shows off the beaten path. Or hypothetically - if your horse lives at a show ground. Where do you go?

That applies to so many of the rules these days for me.

When my mother used to show years and years ago, the rulebook was tiny. Hardly more than a pamphlet.

But unfortunately, it has grown over the years with all the new rules in response to all the bad ideas people have. :frowning:

I had the same thought.

If you brought all your horses and all your help to the show for three weeks, and that happens during the first week, what do you do with that horse?

When I was a working student, my show fees were paid by my boss (pretty sweet deal!). We once traveled 6+ hours to a multi week show. My horse hit the base and fell down the very first day. If I had been forced to move her off grounds, there’s zero way I could have afforded that.

From the wording of the new rule, it sounds like a horse that falls is not automatically supposed to leave the grounds for seven days.

That rule applies to a horse that collapses.

But still. The logistics of getting such a horse off the show grounds could present a challenge.

Oh, I’m aware. I just don’t have personal experience with a horse collapsing at a show for non-nefarious reasons. I’m sure one can exist. Therefore it’s important to think about all the implications. There can be someone facing this and it’s completely, 100% not their fault.

great rule to help eliminate bad actors, but may only be useful if the horse collapses where people not associated with the barn see it happen and report it (I have minimal knowledge of the hunter show world, so no idea whether this could be relevant).
