Kentucky 3-Day question.. need advice!

Hey everyone, I have never been to LRK3DE (still trying to not call it Rolex), and this year I finally decided I’m going no matter what. I decided this last year and bought during the early-bird pricing. Recently, my wonderful mother has decided that she would like to go with me - yay! That will be a BLAST, but I already have tickets in the grandstand with a specific seat with my name on it. And the section I’m sitting in is sold out.

Here is my question… is there a way for me to get tickets sitting with her without losing the ones I already bought? As I see it, my choices are to buy new tickets for myself to sit with her, or settle for sitting apart.

Thoughts? I’d love some advice! Also, any tips on where to stay would be greatly appreciated! The threads I found when I searched are years old, so I’d love more recent advice if possible.

Thank you!!!

the SJ sells out pretty quickly, the choices are to either buy the lesser expensive SJ seats or just get her a seat someplace and for that time period you’ll have to be separated. You could take your chances later to see if people are selling their SJ tickets but that’s no guarantee.

As far as places to stay, some of the better ones may already be booked, I’d just start looking online and booking whatever you can find close to the park. Many are going to be your standard roadside hotels - Days Inn, Hampton Inn, etc. some of course are a little nicer than others. Also - if there’s a hotel that you see like on Hotels.com or Booking.com that’s booked, call the hotel because sometimes they have rooms even though the booking sites say booked - and often the prices are same or lower too.

I would also spring for parking if you can - I liked being able to have car closer as it’s nice to be able to keep jackets, foul weather gear in the car if you need it vs lugging it around - and if you have a buying frenzy !

I’m not sure about the ticket thing, but for hotels I stayed at the Days Inn on North Broadway. It’s not fancy, but it’s close to everything and not expensive. It has a good continental breakfast, which eliminates one meal per day you don’t have to pay for, and it has a gas station in the same parking lot. It also has an attached bar/grill and a Walmart right around the corner, so all the necessities are very close.

You’ll want to book something ASAP because everywhere will be sold out soon if not already. It’s also during the Keeneland spring meet, so a lot of people are in town for that.

I honestly didn’t thinking paying extra for closer parking was worth it, but we go right when the gates open at 7am, so parking and traffic are non issues. You’ll get to see a LOT without it being super crowded if you go early. You’ll get much better photos of jumps, statues, scenery, etc. too.

Bring lots of layers and waterproof shoes. A drawstring backpack is helpful too, so you can bring your own drinks and snacks instead of paying $$$ for them inside KHP.
