Kentucky Derby 2022

Yes, they sizzled the first half and were cooked well-done the last half.

Hard for the jockey to use the outside rein when the outrider is so short on the inside rein. Everyone did fine here, the only jerks I’ve seen are armchair outriders typing comments.

I wonder how bad Joe Sharp is kicking himself right now… that’s horses.

It was an honest question, i wasnt trying to “armchair outrider” it :slightly_smiling_face: It just seemed like there were several instances where the horse was going after the outrider and his pony and the jockey could have stopped it but didnt even try. I just wondered if there was a reason.

Didn’t mean for that to sound like it was to you personally! I just came from a FB thread that was out for blood.

Man the jockey was certainly wheeling some sharp moves. And kudos to Rich Strike for handling that traffic and forging thru the pack, he has a bit of brio going on.

No doubt full of people who have never been on a horse that is being savaged by a 3 year old TB colt that is also attempting to savage you, the rider, whose job it is to keep other horses and jockeys safe. :unamused:

No problem, just clarifying! :slightly_smiling_face: I appreciate the input from you and Skydy!

IDK, when they showed his groom walking him back to the barn, he was moving along on a loose lead and didn’t seem to be giving the groom a lot of grief. The groom was patting his neck and talking to him. Maybe he just doesn’t like strangers.

I had a horse that didn’t like strangers (not a racehorse) but he didn’t do that.

His trainer had a bandaid on his head. Don’t know if that was related.

I have a Roberto grandson too. He is quite opinionated as well – even at 27!

Maybe it was from fainting when he saw the horse win. Lol

How cool is that, to have the Derby as your first graded stakes win as a jockey?

If that behavior is normal for him, he might benefit from brain surgery. Moot point, though, because as a Derby winner he’s not going to get it.

You’re right about that. Though, depending, he may get it at a later date…

I didn’t see this mentioned elsewhere, so apologies if I missed it…

I felt so bad for Teruya Yoshida on the walk over. Did it never cross the minds of those at CD or NBC to have a translator on standby? Yoshida obviously has some working English, but having someone to help would have been a gracious-host thing to do.

I suppose they could have offered and he declined.

I don’t. A lot of us don’t get Fox Sports. Keep it on one of the Big 3 for all those people who don’t have cable or satellite.

I saw a video of Reed from yesterday and he played with the colt, letting it lick and chew on his flat hand. They both seemed pleased with each other. It was a great to see.

Rich undeniably has high spirits but, it seems like some people are making him out to be a man killer.
