Kentucky - Lexington and/or Louisville Dressage Scene?

So my husband and I are hoping to move to the Lexington or Louisville area of Lexington. My job is remote so commute is not an issue for me but my husband will need to find something decent (currently working as a multi-unit business manager) but we are still pretty open. We currently live in an area that has a lot of barns but is a dressage wasteland that is high quality. I’m ready to choose where to live based on the support services available in the area for my high maintenance horse! The plan is to buy a small property and keep the horse(s) at home, but I’m likely going to need to board for a bit while we get the setup complete at home. Would love an area that allows for USDA loans.

We are planning on visiting the end of March to look at areas, visit the Horse Park and maybe get some interviews set up for hubs. Any suggestions?

Thought you were looking for horse resources not where to live.
There is a great GMO in KY - after you are settled perhaps look them up. https://www.kentuckydressageassociation.com/

I mean, I’ll take horse resources too!

It can be surprisingly difficult to find small horse properties here. Fayette and Woodford counties are more challenging. Jessamine, Bourbon, and Madison counties are less so. I can recommend John Scott Durbin at Bluegrass Sotheby’s or Bonnie Becht at Rector Hayden to help you look. I echo KDA as a resource, and also MSEDA. They both have Facebook groups with useful info.

Thank you for the information about the counties! I’ll keep that in mind as I’m looking. It seems like I’ll need to build/amend any horse facilities as they are either way too big or made for cows. My delicate flower of a dressage horse won’t be able to handle that! I also appreciate the realtor recommendations! Buying horse property (or even horse appropriate property) is a challenge!

I’ve been in Lexington now for going on 18 years and I think the dressage scene (actually, all the english discipline scene) is incredibly strong, but I also came from the west. It still blows my mind a bit just how much there is here.
I’ve come to the conclusion I will never move away from the incredible veterinarian hospitals here in Lex, you may take that into consideration about which city you’re interested in. Welcome!

The availability of quality vet care was definitely a selling point for me! I’ve been in the industry for the last 20 years and it is something I look into early in the process. I’m also hopeful I can find a Saturday tech gig to some extra $$$ and to make more connections. Fingers crossed!
