Kentucky Three Day Event 2024

Screens would have been helpful but you have to fully assess his injuries before moving him. I’m not sure what else they could have done except screens.

I thought I saw Banzai take a couple funky steps, but glad the GJ didn’t think so.

They will have a break they need to drag the rings as well.

My point was just that they were able to so quickly conceal PD and his horse being assessed on XC but not for this man in front of a huge audience. I’m not saying they should have rushed him out of the ring without making sure it was okay to do so. It was just scary and left a bad taste in my mouth a bit.

Did the audio cut out on Bronte Beach again?

Quantum Leap sent to the holding box.

he looked OK to me, but Doug was holding him very short.

Bug being sassy per usual :joy::joy: I’m actually kind of surprised they didn’t make him trot again. There wasn’t much trotting.

Doug withdrew Quantum from the hold box. Quite unfortunate, but glad he did right by the horse.

hmmm, Doug has withdrawn.

He looked off to me for sure, glad Doug made the best decision for Quantum.

smurf question - does it make any difference to the horse’s record if it is withdrawn rather than eliminated at the jog?

That was the most generous GJ I’ve seen in a 5* jog in a while.

I am quite enamoured with that power pony but yes I also noticed how short the rein was. Many of the 5* riders were holding their reins short as well.

Dummy question (I’ve only gotten into horses in the last few years) - why do they jog the horses in bridles as opposed to halters? Aesthetics? Degree of control? Tradition? Some combo thereof? Something else entirely?

Not really any difference on the record. But ground juries have excellent memories and you would rather be remembered as a horseman and a gentleman than a schmo that insisted on jogging a lame horse again.

just logging on - when is the jumping? I am on CMH and they are showing yesterday

9:30 central, so it would be 10:30 eastern. I swear, every time I look at it, it changes!

Horses are always presented in bridles, even for breeding/in-hand classes (yearlings and over for hunter breeding, 2YO and up for sport horses). IMO, it gives you more control, does look better, and is traditional.

If you have one that wants to play a bit and get wiggly–either a young horse or amped up like at KY, you can use the reins a bit to straighten them out or keep their attention, in a way you can’t with a single shank and halter.
