That was good Irish boy Jewelent in the 4*, yes? Mr. Dutton had quite the day.

you know, I have seen Bug many times, but he looked so small yesterday on xc. Today, he looked HUGE!

Oh wow! That makes much more sense. He looked tired for sure on the livestream, but not that bad. Makes 100% sense and the reason the 10 minute box exists.

I read he got a yellow card too.

that makes his comments on EN somewhat offensive, downplaying the horse’s exhaustion:

Zach, who was also given a yellow card for riding an excessively tired horse, provided the following statement:

“I am so immensely proud of Rosco for his incredible effort today jumping a clear round around a hard track. Unfortunately, the ground jury chose to eliminate him this evening after the cross country was over, due to him being so tired coming home. While we completely respect their decision, we are ultimately gutted as Rosco recovered very well & trotted up looking absolutely amazing and sound this evening. The most important thing about this sport is the horses, so Rosco’s well-being and overall health is paramount and we are of course so happy that he looks so great. We are so proud of his effort having never lost his jump and we will be back in the fall with some very exciting plans

Yeah, “recovered well” may not have been the best choice of words there…

Our potential Olympic riders are delivering the goods here!!

I’m sorry, are you saying Zach Brandts horse went down while in the vet box? I want to make sure I understand correctly. Because his statement is NOT in line with the horse not being able to stand up right in the vet box….

Bobuddy, thank you for the info. I had thought that maybe there were recovery parameters that Zach’s horse wasn’t achieving that resulted in the MR.

Wow, why didn’t Zach re-route to Badminton? I’m sure he could have done his country proud… prouder even than having his horse collapse after completion in the vet box.

If this “rumor” turns out to be true, the eventing community must shame this man for his wretched behavior and absolute lack of horsemanship.

This brings to mind a certain American who pushed her horse several years ago also to the point of exhaustion and had him collapse upon landing from the last fence.

What is wrong with these people? Is our sport about the horse or the rider’s ego?

Boyd’s saddle flaps look to be too flexible. They wadded up behind his leg.

Unfortunately there are no recovery parameters that automatically trigger elimination. Going down in the box is not usual but it does happen. Often horses go on and show jump well enough. This is the first time I have seen it result in elimination. I suspect the ground jury has sent a warning to riders for Paris. Stopping horses on course is complicated at any event and doubly so at the Olympics. The potential risk of being eliminated in the vet box will keep riders thinking caps on.

Very interesting. I’m curious to see what will happen at Badminton next weekend and if they’ll keep the same high standards of welfare.

Love this pic of Sharon, Claus, and a fan from the COTH article:

(Corrected from Lauren and Bug…still a great photo and Sharon is the nicest!)

well, it looks like we have 3 top riders with two horses apiece for Paris. I realize anything can happen between now and July, but that is hard to beat!

Heartbreaking rail for Liz! Frankie’s pronunciation of Diabolo is driving me crazy. At least the onsite announcers are saying it as expected, when I’ve heard them.

OOPS! Will says Dee-a-BOLO too! I thought it should be Dee-AH-buh-lo. I stand corrected!

you know, I thought Diabolo deserved a little higher dressage score than he got, so this is fittng!

I’m not sure that’s Bug? That horse has white socks.
