Kentucky!

Hi everyone!
I bought tickets to a music festival in Lexington Kentucky June 1/2 weekend. I am only doing the Sunday, but driving down to Kentucky and arriving on the Saturday.

I am looking for good places to visit while I have time. I’m not super interested in bourbon so a booze tour wouldn’t be appealing (i’m also driving myself). I might do tours at Godolphin or Claiborne, but looking for other things to do while I’m there, and they don’t necessarily need to be horse-related

Thanks so much

Maybe a tour of Hagyard or Rood and Riddle?

You can visit https://www.visitlex.com/things-to-do/ for ideas. That weekend is the Railbird Festival, which is music and…I know you’re not a bourbon person, but that’s there too.

If you haven’t been to the Kentucky Horse Park, I would highly recommend it! Also, Ouita Michel has several great restaurants if you want to have some “good eats”.

That’s usually the last week of the spring meet at Keeneland!
and of course, Bourbon Trail.

What about visiting Old Friends, www.OldFriendsEquine.org, where you can meet famous (Silver Charm) and not so famous retired TB stallions and even a few mares as well.

KY Horse Park is also worth a trip and on my last visit to KY I had a private tour of Ashford (Coolmoore America), Hopewell and Winstar Farms, I think any of the big TB breeding farms is worthwhile. Also had a tour of one of the rehab places, watched the horses swim and workout.

Crank and boom ice cream, if you like ice cream. Super excited to go back next month.

Whatever you do go to Spalding’s Bakery first thing in the morning. Best donuts I’ve ever had, and I grew up going to the original Krispie Kreme.

Also, Ramsey’s Diner for pie and the two for one drink specials. What could be better than a slight buzz while eating lemon meringue?

There’s not as much horse related going on in the summer. Keeneland is done, sometimes the horses will work in the mornings though! You can visit the horse park or sign up for a tour. Breeding season is finishing up by then. There are tons is great restaurants in Lexington, but if you are coming for just RailBird weekend it will be busy!
