I’ve been using keratex hoof gel on my horse for over a year and really happy with the results. My thoroughbred has terrible hooves. I’ve had over 20 years of abscesses, lameness, and a canker that I thought was going to force me to put him down. I removed his shoes for about 6 months to allow him time to grow some hoof and take a break. I’m pretty happy with his hoof quality now.
I have a new farrier who has now told me not to apply anything to his hoof wall because “it will allow bacteria to adhere”. I’ve never heard this before and am actually a little taken aback. I’m a pharmacist and quite sure the chemistry of this product would actually inhibit bacterial growth. I don’t want to go without the keratex because I believe it’s worked wonders.
Im looking for opinions if anyone has heard this before?
