Has anyone else planted the carrot seeds that come with a Kerrits purchase?
Yes, a couple of weeks ago! I’m unsure whether they have sprouted as the new vege garden is ‘reclaimed’ from weeds and grass so of course many other things have sprouted also. Too soon to tell what’s what.
Have you?
Yes. Last year. They came up well, but tangled since I didn’t thin enough. Horses thought they were great though.
I have several times with no success.
I did a couple of times. The second time, I got a few carrots, nothing much. I don’t think it was the seeds but the time of year I planted. I live in the deep South, and I suspect carrots would do better if it weren’t so hot. I am going to try again in the fall.
Yeah, I think they are cold-weather veggies, so need to be planted early here in the South. I’ve not tried it yet. Plus, I imagine they are not as good if you hang onto them for more than one planting season. Mine are in a pile in my closet.
You’d be surprised at how many old seeds will come up. I just threw in some squash seeds from 1999, and guess what? They are sprouting.
yeah, carrots and GA. Not a success story!
Yeah I planted mine yesterday, since we’ve been having great sunny weather for Washington, but I don’t know how they’ll do.
Yes, they sprouted, but were rather stumpy. That wasn’t the fault of the seeds, however, but of the shale pretending to be topsoil in our former northern VA yard!
