It is not lost on me that Diamond is having another recall and my dogs are all sick. So! Without further ado, what the heck can I feed them? Big dog needs alt proteins no grains or soy. Puppy is a question mark. Older BC can and will eat anything.

I feed Blue Buffalo Wilderness. They’ve got it at Petco. And Petsmart. Grain-free. They have duck chicken and salmon. I do salmon.
Nature’s Variety? Petsmart carries it. They have various protein sources and Instinct is grain-free.
I love the Nature’s Variety and also the Core brand. I feel that both of these brands can be trusted and they aren’t too hard to find.

I feed Orijen, I’d say the best grain free food (or best food period!) out there. They also make Acana which is also very good. They have several options of proteins.
And, though I’m not a big fan of P&G, California Natural also has a grain free now with other proteins (Kangaroo!).
I saw the Blue Buffalo Wilderness at my local TSC last time I went too
Taste of the Wild
My 2 dogs eat the Sierra Mountain variety, but there are several flavors. I like that I feed less than half the amount to my Border Collie than she was eating and my elderly Greyhound cross, who is very sensitive, VERY PICKY (swear she has an eating disorder ) eats it with no problem.
The Nature’s Variety Instinct also worked for my dogs, but was just too pricey.
I’ve tried several brands, but currently have my dog on Castor & Pollux dry food; I like it a lot. They sell it at PetSmart.

TOTW is made by Diamond (who has the latest recall) hence it is not a choice for the OP!
Mine have done well on Nature’s Recipe which is also sold at Petsmart and Petco (Petsmart is cheaper). All of their food is beef, corn, soy and wheat free and they sell a Grain Free bag that is made with pumpkin and sweet potato (I believe?). Fairly cheaply priced as well at about a dollar per pound if you buy the large bag, although slightly more expensive for the Grain Free recipe. Mine have done well on the Easy-To-Digest bag with chicken, rice and barley, my vet is always commenting on how nice my dogs look and has started recommending the brand as well.
The Diamond recall is for one specific type of food (Naturals Lamb and Rice) and only for certain states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.
to say that Taste of the Wild should also be avoided is a stretch, IMO…
I’m also feeding TOTW right now and am looking at switching to Acana, if my allergy dog can handle it. I’ve not been as impressed with TOTW.
Phydeaux in Chapel Hill carries Acana and Orijen, though I’m not sure how often you’re down in that area. They have a pretty good selection of higher-end kibble. Instinct is another one that comes to mind.

It is made by Diamond, but all ingredients are American-sourced. The issue with the rest of Diamond’s foods are that they’re all made in China, where the restrictions on pet food ingredients are…well, basically non-existent.
Whether you want to support Diamond or not is another issue. I’ll be the first to say that they’re not a great company, but on a college student’s budget with three dogs, the TOTW is the best food I can afford.
I have had no issue, ever, feeding TOTW.

That is what I fed…
I switched my dog off TOTW onto Nature’s Variety Instinct this winter which is grain free and my dog (and I!) have been very happy with it. He’s on the chicken version, but they have several other varieties with different protein sources. I couldn’t find it at any of the ‘box store’ type pet stores around here, but there are a couple local places that carry it, so it’s easy for me to pick up.
Orijen is indeed probably the best out there and you’ll pay for it LOL
Chicken Soup for the Dog/Puppy Lover’s Soul is quite a nice food for a reasonable price. We use it (and the cat version) a lot.
Tractor Supply has a 4Health food now that is very similar in ingredients to ToTW. And Southern States has a new “naturals” food (name is escaping me atm) that also looks quite good - it’s on sale right now so we’ll be getting a bag to try.
Difficult to find a company producing the type of food desired that has never had a recall of any of their products. . .

Enough to make one crazy! Sticking with the TOTW as my dogs are doing well on it, it has never had a recall (referring to the brand, not the manufacturer, jinxed it now, I’m sure), grain-free that I can afford.
Good luck to the OP, hope you find something that makes your pups feel better soon!! Sure can be frustrating.
Tractor Supply has a few varieties of grain free besides TOTW. I fed it before too but was never overly impressed. I have an unopened bag in the house to switch new puppy over from TOTW when I pick her up next weekend.
I’m feeding Nature’s Domain grain free salmon kibble from Costco, manufactured by Diamond . . . should I be worried? I’m in WA.
It doesn’t matter to me that TOTW itself hasn’t had any recalls. If the company who makes it could care less about the quality of their other food and all the other recalls it has had it doesn’t make me feel too good about anything they make.
I’ll still never use anything they produce. No one will ever convince me the “quality” of their “american” ingredients are any good.
