Kid saddle size

Howdy, english rider here and need some advice on appropriate saddle size.

What size saddle should I purchase for my daughter who is of average height/athletic slim build 7yr old kid? Rides a 12h pony who is not a picky guy, not overly wide or narrow, not picky about saddles.

Can be synthetic or leather, prefer comfort and function over looks.

Economical places to look? Reasonable budget expectation?
What to look for or stay away from?

Thank you

What size English?

We used this Saddle for our students for many years, well made for the price and fits a variety of Horses and Ponies, the ad does not say so, but it is a 12" seat, good for the average 6 to 8 year old child, some 9-10 year olds if they are on the thin side and not extremely tall.

I knew a kid who now events (up to Prelim I think) who started in that saddle. Have always said, if I ever have kids (or for my nieces) I would start them in that saddle.

Just sold her starter baby saddle of same design

I think she has her heart set on a western one for her birthday
(pretty purple if she has her choice, with sparkles, …) but I need to make sure it is functional and right size not just “pretty”

How does english saddle size translate to western?

Roughly, you want the English saddle size to be 2 sizes bigger than a Western.

So if you rode in a 17" English saddle, then you’d want a 15" Western. Of course, this is just a rule of thumb.
