Kind of looking for a horse--USEF name Martinson

Hi all,

I’m currently kind of looking around to see what happened to my last horse after he was sold. I had moved to be a working student for a rider last year, but after my ankylosing spondylitis proved to be too much to handle with the workload, I made the decision to leave him with her to sell while I tried to move on with life.

Unfortunately, the situation around his sale did not go as smoothly as possible (a fair amount of drama) and I only know that he was sold around the end of WEF. His USEF membership was never changed and he is still registered under my name.

He is a 2005 dark bay gelding, around 16.1. JC name Unbridled Gold, USEF name Martinson (his barn name was Moose) He’s got a small star and ermine spots on one hind leg. He’s also got a few small notches in one ear from getting his ear stuck in a fan as a racehorse (I was in touch with his racing owners), and a small piece missing from his lip from where he ripped it off on a clip holding a bucket in his stall. We showed in the jumpers locally and at rated shows.

I do not in any way want to bother whoever he’s with now, I would just love to know if anyone knows how he’s doing or what he’s up to. He was very dear to me and a lot of me regrets selling him. I made a knee-jerk decision and wanted to leave it all behind, and rather threw the baby out with the bathwater. I would be more than willing to take him back should he need to retire someday–he was so unfailingly kind to me in the almost three years he was my equine partner.

I know this forum has found horses before, so I figured I would give it a shot.

I hate to be one of “those people” and bump old posts, but with WEF and everything going on, I just thought maybe someone would have seen him out and about or heard how he’s doing, so thought I’d try again.

It’s OK GingerJumper, it’s not that old, only six weeks and posted over the slower holidays, Ill bump you but don’t know the horse.

You might also want to post him in the missing horse thread at the top of the page, more people would see it that way.

She has a 2005 gelding named Martinson, sire and dam unknown, about halfway down the page.

If you click on the picture, the video title says his barn name is Moose too!

Fingers crossed this is the right horse! Good sleuthing, COTH.

ETA: Wait, that can’t be right - the video is from '13.

That would be so cool if y’all found the horse!

Well here’s the OPs horse, but I can’t find a decent photo of the horse posted above to match the markings.

The head seems similar though? Also from what I’ve been able to find, the OP stopped showing/updating about her horse in 2013, so he could have been sold in 2013. The OP will have to say yay or nay to that one.

Wait jk. The OP owned this horse when Hillary Simpson was riding him, back in 2013. So that website might be outdated and Hillary Simpson may no longer own him.

Not sure if this is OP or a new rider. But it was “pinned” less than a year ago (no idea how pinterest works though)

That was me on the horse as a six year old. I owned the horse until the end of WEF last year. Hillary did not own him, but we (Moo and I) lived at Palmyra for a while, so he was on the website.

I was sponsored by Horze and another company when I owned him, so there are pictures of him on some of their websites.

He was never a “top” event horse, only did the young horse thing once and just happened to finish very well, and the judge said some really great things about him. I didn’t care to event and stuck to jumpers after. Not sure why they out that in the comment on the Pinterest post?

I did some more digging on my own and it looks like he went to a Declan Orpen, but all that comes up under a Google search are a ton of articles about him being sued for stuff. Lovely.

I don’t have any leads but just wanted to send you the best of luck. Not knowing is hard.

Hate to bump this after… 6 years. But he was on my mind today and I just wanted to see if anyone perhaps had come across him over the years. I’ve looked for him online on and off since 2013 and have yet to find him–hopefully that means something good, and not something bad.

GJ, have you tried posting on OTTB Connect on Facebook, or Purina Find Your Old Friend? Hoping you can track him down!

I don’t have FB or social media at the moment–which is probably hindering my search somewhat. I may rejoin to post. Thank you for the suggestion, I really appreciate it!

How about looking at old show records online?

Just checking in close to 10 years now after he was sold. I’ve learned very little since posting originally, besides that he was sold to Declan Orpen as a jumper. Just wanted to bump this in case someone who has him may ever google him and wonder about his backstory—or if he ever needs a safe place to land. He’d be 19 now, if I remember right from his papers he was foaled in February of 2005.

I have spent almost every day for the past decade regretting the choice I made at 18 to sell him but I listened to the wrong people and didn’t really know what to do.

So if you know him, or knew him, and see this: please feel free to reach out if you’d like to, or if he ever needs a soft landing to retire.

Just here to say I hope you get the answers that you’re looking for.

I know all about being young, in a tight spot, and making decisions that result in decades of continuous regret. Whatever you do or don’t find out, be kind to yourself.
