Kitten neutering aftercare

Just had my two kittens neutered at the local SPCA (chose that over my vet because it only cost $5 per cat!)

They said to make sure the kittens dont really play/run around for 10-14 days…:eek:
They are indoor cats for now, so theyre staying clean/dry…but they were ready to play right when they got home. They seem to feel just fine. How bad is it if they play/jump/run?

I can definitely lock them in their room or in the crate if they really need to be calm, but how necessary is this? What precautions did you take after your cats got neutered?

A few details about them if it matters: They’re almost 4 months old and 4ish lbs each. They will become barn kitties as soon as they gain another lb or two.

When I worked spay/neuter for a shelter we’d cut the ferals loose the next day. A male kitten neuter is the EASIEST of all the surgeries. IIRC we just glued them if they were scrotal, there’s not even sutures. I wouldn’t say its ‘bad’…but the vet will say 'I told you not to!!!" if there’s a litle bit of seepage or swelling at the site. As long as you’re not leaving them out to lay in the mud or forcing them to climb rafters they should be just fine.

I figure if they feel well enough to play then they’re fine. Just change their litter to shredded newspaper for a couple of days so they don’t get the “gravel” stuck on their little butts. I supposed you could keep them in one room for 24 hours, but I’ve never done anything more than that. Cats are EASY.

We rescued a 12 week kitten while we were visiting in Ohio this summer. He ended up becoming my mom’s cat. Had him neutered at the local vet on a Tuesday morning, brought him home and he stayed on the back porch for 24 hours. After that, vet said to just keep an eye on him, but he was free to bounce about.

It really doesn’t take long for a young neuter to feel good. Let them be their own judge. If you have other animals, then yes, put them in a separate room for 2-3 days.

The only other animals we have are two dogs who lay around and stare at the kittens like they’re crazy. One dog will occasionally sniff them, but you can tell that both dogs simply tolerate them.

The kittens seem to be feeling fine. I locked them in their room and let them out this morning. Theyre running around like bats out of hell.
They have a bit of swelling, but no redness or anything. The tech said that there are no sutures at all, just teeny tiny incisions…didnt say anything about glue. hmm.

About the longest I have ever been able to keep a newly neutered kitten quiet was a few hours. After that, they are so mad at being separated from their friends that they are more active than if I had just let them go out in their room. You kitten is adorable!

24 hours to sleep off the drugs and they should be fine! Keep inside and check incision daily just in case.10-14 days is crazy, at my clinic even a 100lb dog neuter would be allowed normal activity after 7 days at most. Sounds like a CYA instruction! Let 'em rip
