I know I hogged this thread yesterday, but…
the jury is in. My horse does not like the thicker one, I think it bops him on the roof of his mouth. Did some experimentation today in the arena and the outcome was quite clear. He went fine in the 14, soon as I changed over, after a bit of a walk, he wouldn’t
budge, pinned his ears, shook his head. I got the message. Maybe I’ll try to find a 16. Thanks for everyone’s feedback.
LOL, don’t you love it when they “talk” to you in very clear, but safe, terms? 
I have a friend who tried a mullen mouth Comfort Snaffle on her horse. He “spoke” unkindly of the bit by promptly bucking her off
