Kodachrome

Hey all –
Recently got a lovely little mare by Kodachrome… She has color, and moves like a million bucks, so eventually we’d like to breed her.

Previous owner had been trying to register with with Canadian Warmblood registry, and I can continue to go down that road (DNA is done), but is that my only option? I read he is actually a registered Oldenburg…

Not finding a lot of info about him or who owns him, etc. online, so am turning the learned folks of COTH.

Any info on Kodachrome or hints on dealing with Canadian WB Reg. would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks,
Seb

Canadian Livestock Records show him currently owned by Tannis Bennett.
He is out of the registered TB mare Rex’s Turn.
He is listed in the S Book with CWHBA and has DNA on file. Email or call CWHBA head office…they can give you info.

Maybe check with Oldenberg NA to see if he is in their books as well…CLRC notes his license expires in 2008 I believe.

Thanks, pinto power!

Kodachrome was gelded quite a few years ago and sold to the States as a hunter. Last I heard, he was still competing on the West Coast in the Adult Amateurs. While he may have had Oldenburg papers due to his sire, Art Deco, he was not approved Oldenburg.

He was at the barn where I work up until 2010. I am guessing he is alive and kicking, but I don’t stay in touch with her. He would be about 20 now. She is not the owner that gelded him. A USEF search lists him as Oldenburg.

A google search did find this: http://dorschfarms.ca/kodachrome.htm

Tannis did own him for a while. My heart horse is by him. She was a small junior hunter on the local circuits and dabbled on the A’s. She was WONDERFUL…

She’s the dark bay/brown mare.

Also, your link doesn’t work

Thanks all! Had no idea he’d been gelded. Interesting…

Argh…stupid FB. I’ll try to fix the link.
Thanks!!

Just because a horse is a registered Oldenburg, that doesn’t mean he’s an APPROVED Oldenburg sire. That’s an entirely different ballgame…and test, show records and expense. Not sure how the Canadian Registry will honor it. He has “approvable” bloodlines, but didn’t go through the proces.
Wasn’lt this horse owned and raised in New Jersey? (Liz Hall of Silverwood Farm bred him if it’s the horse I’m thinking of)
I believe the Hunter trainer who owned him was Robert Beck?Again, if it’s the horse I remember…they brought him along slowly, and he ended up doing some lower level hunters quite nicely…not sure where he went from there.

He did the 3ft hunters in WA state from 2007 to 2010, then retired. I swear my boss said she got him from Canada. USEF will give a show record prior to 2007 if you email and ask.

My mare came from Canada, which is where Tannis is located. So yep, he at one point was in canada

I think Tannis had him from a yearling but may be wrong on that. He was sent to Thermal and sold to ?? He was however gelded and shown out of Pot Creek Stables in Washington by a young girl. I remember seeing him at Evergreen in 2008 showing in A/A hunters. They had him from around 2007 ish. Tannis had a PMU contract for several years and there are/were quite a few of his foals around from those years.

Kodachrome (Kody) is coming to my barn to retire in April.
