Konig Favorit Dressage Vs. Petrie Olympic

After much time spent trying to figure out what I can afford, I have gathered quotes for two models: Konig Favorit Dressage and Petrie Olympic. Both boots feature rubber soles, the front zipper, whalebone, spanish top (which I have now learned is also called a dressage bow and its NOT worn in your hair ) The Konig (not surprisingly) is slightly more expensive.

I can not find much detail on leather quality, lining, or footbed specificiations for the Konig and I’m afraid of getting a very low quality boot with an expensive name. I also have not seen any mention on either boot of zipper quality. I would love a metal zipper…

I am leaning towards the Petries as when I look at photos (and i’ve seen so many) the Petries always APPEAR to have a nicer ankle than the Konigs. AND Petrie asks for an additional ankle measurement that Konigs don’t.

If you happen to have either of these models specifically in your tack room (Or a close friend who does), any feedback would be appreciated. Can anyone comment on stiffness of either of these? I’ve never had stiff dressage boots, so I’ve got nothing to compare them to.

I have the Konig Favorite model and LOVE them but I like a bit softer boot. My only regret is not having two pairs–one for daily use and another to show in. My boots are standing up well, no problems with the zipper—but the leather is soft and not likely to stand up to hard wear. That said I love the fit–very elegant boot.

I can’t help too much but I have Konig field boots and they are NOT low quality (nor were they cheap), so I wouldn’t worry about getting an inferior quality boot. Sorry I can’t help out with your specific question, I just wanted to reassure you

I think the Koenigs Favorit is a very well proven boot.
Its been on the market for many years.
I have Petries and Koenigs boots. And i would never buy Petries again. Forme they are uncomortable…

Koenigs vs. Petries

I can’t comment specifically on these boot styles but I can tell you Koenigs outclass and out wear Petries for me. The break in on Koenigs is very easy and quick. Not so with Petries. I had to ace bandage the back of my knees for a month to avoid rubs. I don’t need to do anything with Koenigs but put them on and I can ride comforably from day one.

My last pair of Koenigs lasted 10 years. They were still a beautiful boot but the ankle leather did break through at that point. The Petries didn’t last even half as long.

I’m on my second pair of Koenigs and I expect them to last 10 years again. I’m sold on this boot for sure. Well worth the money.

Have the favorites and love them. They did have an imperfection in the sewing of the foot but once I dug out an extra bit of glue, they were fine. Love the cut of the foot bed as it gives my wide toes plenty of space. Only thing is there isn’t any liner for the foot so had to add my own which is fine as I like more arch support so add arch with a tiny bit of heel lift. The measurements for the calves seem true to measure (unlike some other brands). The zipper is good quality and feels solid. Love the stiffness of this boot, more than a soft boot but definitely not a tube around one’s leg.

Thanks guys, just what I was looking for! Do the Favorits have a metal zipper?

I have tried on the Konig and own a pair of Petrie Ankys (almost the same as the Olympic). The Petries definitely have a more elegant ankle area, and I think the calf is nicer in the Petries. Footbed/shape in the Petries also fit me the best (wide foot). The tack room at my barn is full of Petries and everyone loves them! Its hard to go wrong though with any high-end dress boot, they’re all very well made- whatever fits you best and works price-wise is the way to go.
