'KR' branding, what's it mean?

I know very little about breeding and branding, so I apologize in advance if this question has already been answered or is obvious to all of you guys

I was asked to graze a mare today at the farm who I’ve never seen before. While grazing her I noticed that she had a branding on her left hip with two fairly big letters ‘KR.’ It didn’t look like any of the Holsteiner, Hanoverian, etc. brandings that I’m used to - it looked pretty unprofessional to be honest. She was about 15’3" and stalky and that’s about all I know! Is it possible that a breeder has their own brandings and brands every horse that comes out of their farm? Just curious, TIA!

Many farms and ranches (especially in the Western States) have their own brands and put them on everything they breed or everything they own. Brands are registered by state so it is possible for two places to have the same brand if they are in different states.

Ah yes, thank you! I figured that was the case - I’m a little surpised that she is the first horse I’ve come across with a branding like that but then again I don’t see a lot of horses from the west as I’m a H/J girl from the east. Thanks again!
