Kroop's custom boots

Has anyone ever had custom hunting boots made at Kroop’s in Maryland?

I have had custom galloping boots, and jocks boots make by Kroops… great company to deal with, but have never had regular tall boots made by them!

I’ve had two pairs of dressage boots from them … most comfortable boots I have ever worn. Pair # 3 will probably come this year.

Haven’t bought customs from them, but I have off-the-rack paddock boots from them that I absolutely love. I’ve worn the hell out of them over the past 15 years, had them resoled twice by Kroop’s, and they’re still going strong. I bought a second pair probably 5 or so years ago in anticipation of my current pair eventually dying on me, and I still haven’t taken the new pair out of the box. Fantastic boots.

Contact Information?

Could you please give me the contact information for Kroops?

I have a pair. Love’em but they are a tad short. My mistake in that I didn’t specify the height.

They also don’t do all the kinds of leather like Vogel (calf skin becuase it doesn’t wear well), but I have found the leather to be nice.

Thanks everyone, it’s good to know they have a good product. I wonder how their prices compare to Vogel’s.

cheaper, mine were $600 out the door in 2004. In that same year, Vogels started at $600…

I had a custom pair of dress boots made about…6 years ago. Just got them re-soled this year. They are gorgeous and very comfortable. Fit perfectly, too…when I was 14. Had the calves stretched a bit, fortunately the foot still fits.

Kroops vs. Dehners

OK, I am this close — --- to purchasing a pair of custom boots. I have never heard of Kroop’s. I looked at their web site and they seem to have a decent product.

Here’s my question, which is better, holds up longer or is just the best boot: Dehner’s or Kroop’s?

I know, I know, this is probably an unfair qestion. Everyone has their own opinions, but I’d like some imput from people who have these boots.

I’ll use these boots for riding one horse a day, for shows (once in a blue moon). I want a pair of boots that I won’t have to replace for a very long time. I want a boot that is classic and not trendy. Zippers or no zippers? What do you think?

Thank you in advance for your input.

I can’t speak to Kroops but I have loved both pairs of Dehners I’ve owned. The first was a full custom pair back in 1976 which lasted until my tender teenage body outgrew them. I can’t remember if they were $150 or $300 back then but I do remember saving all my $$$ to order them. These were black field boots.

The second and current pair I use are semi-custom which I bought from someone lightly used. They are at least a 1993 model and are black dress boots with the full lining cut out on the calf, both sides. Super comfortable and there is nothing going on w/ them right now which would warrent sending them to Omaha for repair. I can wear thin or thick socks w/ them. I did add a little toe padding because I had become accustomed to the fabulous, soothing foot bed of Ariat boots.

Zippers have their place and it’s nice they are available for the hard to fit person. Neither of my Dehners have zippers. For schooling I ride in Ariat close contact half chaps w/ zipper Ariat paddock boots and they are so comfortable!

Good luck!

Have no experience with the Kroops boots so cannot say anything but very curious too to hear comments on D v K boots.

While I do not think zippers are a fad as they are here to stay for sure, no zippers is classier.

Elegance = simplicity.

I have several pair of Dehners. Compared to Dehners, their boot lasts are a little different, their leather is a little different, but their quality seems great. You can ask for as stiff as a DQ boot, or as soft as you want. As far as zippers, if well done, they won’t be visible.

If you believe in supporting small US companies, I suggest you call and talk with them…actually talk with Randy, the grand-daughter of the founder, AM Kroop.

I saw some Kroop’s paddock boots in FL for sale at a tack store - they were $450! I thought that was expensive, and imagine that I could get custom paddock boots for something close to that. I opted for a pair of Hadfield’s for $200.

I have not seen Kroop’s tall boots.

I would venture a guess that those paddock boots had all of the fancier options included. I bought the plain zipper front paddock boots with the smooth sole, and mine were $200 five years ago. They have a ton of options (various toe cap designs, different types of soles, spur rests, etc.) that can really increase the price. Even though mine aren’t customs, they really mold to your feet and are well worth the price for the product. They really do wear like iron.
