KWPN stallion Johnson

I have often wondered why we don’t see more Johnson offspring here in NA, as I have heard they are usually quite leggy and modern in type (although can be a bit narrow as someone mentioned), and they seem to be born with an “auction trot” - LOTS of hindleg activity and wonderful articulation in the shoulder, knee, stifle, hock, and super “takt”, and they also have the ability to hold themselves in balance quite nicely when they get that big trot going (except sometimes during their growth spurts when they are high behind). Have also heard the trot is usually the highlight, so I would think the mare should bring the walk and canter.

I believe his first foals are just 6 y/o’s this year, and they are really starting to get noticed, esp. for the y/h classes. I am curious to see how they do as they go up the levels and how easy it is to collect all that activity.

I would think Keswick would bring in Johnson frozen, if there is proven demand for it. Certainly wouldn’t hurt to contact them and ask. If you can’t find Johnson frozen in NA, you may want to consider his son, Bretton Woods (from a De Niro / Romancier mare). I believe Judy Yancey has a new batch of BW in stock.

I have a breeding to Florencio via Keswick in VA. I was thinking of switching stallions to get around the EVA thing and they did say a switch to Johnson would be fine. But, of course, call to confirm. I’ve found Keswick very helpful and easy to work with, by the way.

This is video of our Johnson/Argentinus mare from two weeks ago. She is very trainable yet has that necessary “spark” to show well in the Dressage Arena.

Agree about the base narrow comments. And would certainly start with a mare with a good walk and good top line.

I absolutely love her. I’m no expert, but that’s one of my favorite videos of a young horse being worked that I’ve seen - so gentle, soft and happy looking in everything.

Johnson Semen in US

Johnson is in the KWPN-NA 2012 stallion auction – donated by Team-Nijhof. I can vouch for working directly with Team Nijhof in purchasing semen and have met them personally. Very nice people

Auction is active now: http://kwpn-na.org/auction/

Thank you!

Here are some recent photos of Johnson taken at the KWPN Stallion Show in Holland a couple of weeks ago:

Johnson had some very nice sons at the show and he is looking as good as ever.

He truly is a super sire and his foals all seem to have great minds.

We took a recent video of our coming two year old Johnson x Houston x G. Ramiro Z gelding Fahrenheit P you can see here, he is very talented for a two year old of course it is winter now so hard to take great video with a winter coat:

What registries is Johnson approved by? I think I saw Oldenburg, KWPN, and Westfalen? Is this correct?

I believe he is also approved for Swedish WB and Danish WB breeding.

Croisadore that’s a very nice mare.

Crosiadore - love that mare! She looks like such a fun ride, I love her outline, and obvious controlled power.

What about the length in the body/back of the Johnsons? The ones I’ve seen could not be called short coupled.

Johnson at Stallion keuring 2012

We took some video of Johnson at the stallion keuring earlier this month. http://youtu.be/fcbL31uC78I

Crosiadore I love your mare! Very nice!

Here is a great pic of Johnson I found the other day…talk about uphill!

I saw three Johnsons today, a mature 4 yr old mare who is tall, leggy and actually looked a lot like her dam…she is apparently a very good mover though she is pregnant and I didn’t see her go. The two yearlings were very different in size and type…one very pretty and petite and the other long lined and a bit more noble. The bigger one moved with quite a bit of freedom though. Breeder has bred quite a few of them and said they all have very good temperament and rideability.

He looks to be shaping up to be a really good sire. I have decided on him for one of my mares this year:)

We have bred a Johnson and a Bretton woods foal this year
both are very modern and nice types and both have wonderful tempraments
i would definatly use both again.

Wanted to update this thread about Johnson.

We are thrilled to report back that our Draganette P Ster KWPN mare [Johnson x Odette N Keur (Houston x G. Ramiro Z x Marco Polo)] recently won the prestigious 2011 Governor General’s Cup Class at the Royal Winter Fair a couple of weeks ago in Toronto.

Photos can be seen here:

It has been a few years since a KWPN bred horse won the Cup I think Popeye K was the last KWPN horse to win.[/QUOTE]

Congrats!!

Has anyone used Johnson on a mare with more TB blood. I have a half TB mare that I’d like to improve loin connection, make a more vertical neck position, and add strength and power to the hind leg. The mare brings great rideability, super walk and canter.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.
