KWPN Stallion suggestions

I am looking for KWPN stallion suggestions for my new mare I just got. She is a KWPN STER mare by Rhodium and out of a mare by Don Primaire (Donnerhall)line.
She is a really nice mare overall, but if I am being picky the two things I would like to improve the most on her is her neck as it is sufficient in length but a bit deep at the base. The second thing is her trot could use more elevation, it leans towards being a bit more huntery than dressage in type.

I have been looking at different KWPN stallions but it seems quite a few have poor quality frozen semen. I would like to stick with frozen if possible so if there are any suggestions for KWPN stallions that freeze really well and might compliment her please let me know.

Thanks!

Johnson? I am not sure what his breeding values are for neck but he should improve the trot. I like him a lot!

FWIW I saw a nice Uphill colt the other day from a Ferro mare. Lots of knee and expression in the front legs and a lovely neck.

There’s several great KWPN stallions with decent frozen.

Ampere
Astrix
Lord Leatherdale (you can even get a LFG with his through Hilltop Farm)
Negro (again through Hilltop w/LFG)

There’s also Sir Sinclair, UB40, and possibly Contango through Iron Spring Farm, and Rousseau through Hassler Dressage.

Cindy
Diamond A here in Alberta has some Negro and (I cant remember if its Chippendale or Lord Leatherdale) I believe they store it at Equistar…

Rousseau and Negro are both by Ferro as is Rhodium… I would assume that Cindy isn’t looking to double up on Ferro like that?

FWIW I know you are looking for KWPN and frozen but after seeing pics of her on your facebook page I think she would be amazing to Wolkentanz II. She clearly has a very strong back (which I think WII needs in a mare) and he consistantly throws really super necks and great movement. Maybe if you need a fresh backup (hopefully not but you never know)…?

Have you looked at Wynton? He’s Jazz x Matador x Rubinstein and is competing GP age 9. A friend used his frozen a couple of years ago and got a pregnancy from 1 cycle and a very smart foal.

A friend of mine also got a pregnancy with Wynton (frozen).

…so wish that Pandoer had his KWPN approval. His bloodlines are just stellar and he is out of one of the top three mare lines in Holland…

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! No I would prefer to not double up on Ferro. I do really like Johnson but for some reason thought when I saw a conformation picture a while back his neck tied in a bit deep as well? I will have to go and check him out again.

I am glad to hear Wynton has good semen. I have been looking into him. I was also thinking possibly Sandreo might be a good match for her? I also like 007 though he has been around a long time and foals might not be as marketable as the up and coming new boys.

Equistar has Lord Leatherdale that they use there. However, I would prefer to do my own frozen so would have to look at purchasing it somewhere else if I chose to go with him. But he is nice as well.

I really liked Charmeur but heard his frozen is iffy so crossed him off my list.

Thanks Donella for the suggestion of Wolkentanz II. I know your foals you had were lovely by him! I would prefer to stay KWPN but you never know, sometimes if the breeding year doesn’t quite as one intended a fresh cooled backup plan is a good thing, lol.

If you’re in the US… I have Imothep frozen for 2013 and can offer Dakota VDL frozen though not listed as such since he will be standing for fresh.

For frozen we also have Vegas (also fresh), Twisther, Victor E, Orbatello, Egrando Van’t Heike and Commando ES.

All superb stallions, but Orbatello, Egrando, & Commando are not KWPN stallions…

Cheers

I was kinda thinking the same on both points. Wolkentanz is accepted by KWPN.

Another fresh choice, even though this will be adding a lot more Donnerhall blood, but your percentages of new blood will still be quite high is Sir Gregory, also accepted by KWPN.

Other Frozen choices could be:

Furst Romadour - http://www.vdlstud.com/paard/3/3/92/dressuurpaarden/for-romadour.htm

Uphill - http://www.vdlstud.com/paard/3/3/138/dressuurpaarden/uphill.htm

Johnson - http://www.team-nijhof.nl/apps/hengst_detail.php?id=43 (While the Jazz is known to add heat, Johnson does not follow this trend and is particularly known for his evenness of temperament and easy-going nature). He comes with LFG.

Alternatively, adding some additional Donnerhall blood isn’t always a bad thing - Johnson’s son - Bretton Woods - http://www.schockemoehle.com/en/service-station-stud/breeding-stallions-2012/?details=123&cHash=01000c5922

Bordeaux - Donnerhall, plus adds Krack C, and also Kostolany which is a spectacular Trakehner blood addition. http://www.schockemoehle.com/en/service-station-stud/breeding-stallions-2012/?details=4&cHash=df2860d065

Tailormade Temptation - will have to double-check he will be on PS’s frozen roster, but this stallion adds interest - http://www.schockemoehle.com/en/service-station-stud/breeding-stallions-2012/?details=134&cHash=bfb28f8471

FWIW - VDL and Nijhof are very trustworthy when it comes to quality of frozen semen. Nijhof stallions comes with a LFG.

We used Charmeur (Florencio x Jazz) in 2012 with success. We got an ET pregnancy from a 3 year old maiden mare with a single dose using deep horn insemination on the hour of ovulation. After seeing this incredible stallion perform at Verden last summer, I can hardly wait for this foal to be born. I am planning to repeat this breeding in 2013.

We are also expecting an ET foal in 2012 from a single dose of Don Tango (Contango x Jazz) semen. A friend has an 18 year old mare who also conceived with a single dose of Don Tango. My repro vet bred both of these mares using the same protocol.

Lastly, the wonderful KWPN approved stallion, Connaisseur (Con Amore x Donnerhall), has just been imported to Vancouver, Canada and he will be available to North American breeders in 2013. This 5 year old stallion is approved with four different European registries, including the KWPN. Despite his young age, he was very successful as both a breeding stallion and performance horse in Holland. He was ridden for the past two years by Charmeur’s rider, Emmelie Scholtens, and finished 6th at the PAVO Cup finals in 2012. His owner is in the process of updating her website with current breeding information.
