Laine ashker clinic

Heniz 57,

No I’ve been eventing for years (something like 10 or so) just never recognized. My horse and I have had a couple years off and we are just getting back into the game. We have our first recognized event planned for May (my birthday!).[/QUOTE]

I must be thinking of someone else then. Even at that, I’d still say it’s not worth the money. For just getting back into things, I’d get more out of a handful of dedicated private lessons with a mid-level instructor.

I’m surprised Laine is the one upset, she technically would not be out of pocket, no? It would be the organizer who would be out of pocket. Most Clinicians would just show up, do the job and leave, not knowing who exactly paid or did not pay. So I’m quite surprised she took it into her own hands to publicly post the names.

Honestly, a lot of organizers are friends with or have a long standing relationship with those that they bring in for clinics. I know that I would not organize a clinic for just anyone. Clinicians need the organizers. So I totally get why a clinician would be up set if one is treated badly. They may decide to stop organizing clinics.

Just like we as riders need organizers of events. We should expect respect…but also have to treat organizers of events and clinics with respect. Yes…some are making money off it…but it is rarely so much to be truly worth the hassle if you have too many bad experiences IMO.

To the question of more green riders taking a clinic with a BNR, I would say that you can’t underestimate how those clinics will go in terms of being a factor in the riding career of the rider.

I was exceptionally lucky to ride with Bruce Davidson in 2 day clinics at my school back when I was in the 7th and 8th grade. In the first year I was on my first pony still and had never ridden in an event. In my second year I was on my Tb mare and we had evented a couple times at Novice. (Called Pre-Training then and at 2’11 it was the lowest level)

It was a HUGE learning experience with all the elements that still make Bruce (in)famous. There were huge jumps, solid skills required and minimal sympathy when things didn’t go well. My second year was more fun because my mare was an insane jumper and she never stopped at a thing in her life.

That said since this goes back to dates in 1984 and 1985 Bruce was hot and it was sure fun to say that I had ridden with THE Bruce Davidson. There were lessons within the lessons that I still hark back to today. So while I understand that green riders may not NEED to ride with a name rider, I don’t think you can replace that kind of idol motivation and surreal nervous excitement with 6 regular lessons from your local coach.

I really do think it’s good for all levels of riders to be nervous about doing their best in front of a name and then having to get through the nerves and the possible mistakes one can make due to them. I would even go so far as to say that surviving riding for your idol can be similar to surviving the nerves of an event you’re keyed up for.

You possibly are thinking about me as I did ask about starter events not to long ago. I’ve got a green bean that I was inquiring about

I might be confused, but I don’t think Lainey had a fit on FB, I think the organizer did…

I wasn’t trying to say that a greenie riding with an idol has no place, Xctrygirl. it doesn’t sound like this is someone the OP idolizes at all, though, and I was simply relating what I have seen with regard to the brag factor in my personal circle of people through auditing and my own participation.

No, no she took down her posts.

I believe that the organizer could pursue the check writers in small claims for stopping payment. PITA and probably not worth it but sending the signed check agrees to the clinic conditions, including the fact it’s non refundable if it’s clearly stated on the entry form.

No real avenues for retribution legally, very difficult if parties are out of state. Why they invented social media

I’m pretty sure the organizer is going after the people. She was speaking to a lawyer on the matter. I don’t know the findings from that conversation though

OMG…get over it move on…the public rant was bad enough…shit happens…our 30+ inches of snow here made a sht storm…and second thoughts if that was the reason and Organizer didn t cash the checks …well bad form but not earth shattering…Replacement riders were found…no harm…move on its not a FEI 3 event. Lesson learned, cash checks or accept PayPal. Such a typhoon in a spoon.

Thank you. Seriously thank you. It was unprofessional from all parties, but things happen. Dont know why it blew up so much, but it may have had something to due with the cult following that Lainey seems to have on social media.

I think there would have been less drama had someone pulled out of a CCI3* but that’s just my personal opinion.

I don’t think the spots were filled. That was the issue. Wouldn’t matter to me who the clinician was…also just as bad if it was done at an event.

I believe the spots were filled. This was on the organizer’s FB page:

“I have to say that despite the bad apples today, the event community is such an amazing group!!! A heartfelt thank you to Emily Rausch, Emily Watson Ragan and Lauren Nethery for jumping in last minute and filling the LAE clinic!!!”

Um… Maybe try calming down a bit? I was responding to what others were inquiring about.
