Lainey and Frodo Thread
There is an update on her condition on her blog and a sweet statement from her Mom about the trophy named afterher horse St. James, that died last year.
I would like to write a personnal note to Valerie but I can’t find where to send it on Laine’s web site or blog, does anyone know the name of the farm or web address? My heart just aches for her.
Thanks
Can anybody fill me on what the St James Trophy is about? I know James’s story, but what is the purpose of the Trophy itself? Thanks!

On the first day of dressage on Thursday Lainey rode in the little golf cart with me and my friend after her first dressage ride. She was so excited and friendly and we both wished her well. I was near the jump when the accident happened and caught only the tail end of the fall but the aftermath will remain etched in my memory forever. I wish her a speedy recovery and hope that more safety measures can be taken. I am a weenie H/J wannabe myself and admire the courage that all you eventers have. It is a passion you have and is truly amazing and beautiful to watch when done well (even if it makes me wet myself a little:lol:) You are well rounded athletes and I hope that more can be done to keep the spirit of your sport alive but safe for all of you as riders and your mounts.

Sending get well thoughts to Lainey, and now Corrine from Ky.

I don’t think today’s lexington herald update has been posted–WARNING there is a pretty graphic photo of the fall: http://www.kentucky.com/779/story/389828.html

Her mom is relocating, but Laine had said she was staying in VA, unless that had changed.

Eight St. James Place.

Their farm website says they are relocating the business to CA. Laine would have nowhere to live and train if she stayed here unless she’s already got a place of her own that nobody knows about.

Lex - that’s (the relocating bit) been up since at least last year, don’t know if it was still true… esp since they came from CA to VA specifically for eventing!

Well their property is still listed on the market for sale at $775K.

Any reports

on how she is getting on?? Still jingling and sending good thoughts for her fast recovery!

Do you think she’d get cards sooner if they were sent to her c/o UofK Hosipital ICU?

Nothing posted for today, yet. But her mom has been posting updates to: http://laineashker.blogspot.com/

Thanks for that

As of what her mom posted Yesterday she is getting slowly better, one of her lungs has sealed and she is taking so breaths on her own. Her vitals are improving. So very awesome what Buck and Karen are doing!
Thanks for the link! Still sending healing prayers!

As a mom of a beautiful daughter I feel her love and pain. Boy, a big hug for her too.

UPDATE on blog

From Laine’s mom

Laine continues to progress well. Yesterday was hard on me because the nurses are gradually lowering Laine’s sedation so if I went to kiss my daughter’s precious forehead or hand she would wake and struggle to get up. It is a horrible situation to watch your own daughter caught between the zones of medication and reality.

Laine goes for surgery on her jaw thank God today. She is third patient in the OR room so time is still up in the air as to when she actually goes. I am ancious to see my girl’s face afterwards. Her jaw will be wired shut and they are putting a trachea tube in so ventilating will be more effeicient and easier for her to withstand. Her lungs are doing so much better …I am so THANKFUL for her combative spirit. That’s John Wayne stuff right there. Michael and I will update her surgery later today when she gets wheeled back to her ICU slot. My girlfriend of 30+ years is the designer and “keeper” of Laine’s website so she will be sure to post it immediately. I can’t even start to thank ALL of you for your e mails, calls, cards, gifts, and mostly PRAYERS for my daughter’s recovery…I love each and every one of you and all your efforts are paying off. There is NOTHING more precious than your own child. NOTHING.

Which brings me to our boy Frodo Baggins. Briefly, our devastation will be felt for YEARS TO COME. Laine’s partnership with her boy will never be equalled. He is gone. We have only memories. While I was running this morning I thought of how in shock not only I am in but my family around me that he is even gone. When I drive home to Crow’s Ear Farm and see my black beauty is missing from the famous “Jamie field” and stall #2…it will be another whole round of heartache and void that both Laine and I will endure. Laine’s partner gave her confidance. So much is now gone for my beloved daughter. I am extremely concerned as to how and if she will even pick up the broken pieces and continue on with her eventing carreer. It will be a choice and decision only she can make. I have deliberately NOT mentioned Frodo on our website because Laine DOES NOT KNOW about his dimise. When she was first flighted into emergency on Saturday Laine’s hands were bound but she was able to finger out the letters F_R_O_D_O on her sheets…I protected her from the truth and said Katie her incredible groom was taking care of him. Katie thank God, was the only one with him and said he remained our ‘champion’ even till the end. So please, until I can find the right moment to grapple the strentgh and tell Laine…let’s keep this “mum’s the word”. I need your continued support on this. I do believe this task, will be one of the most difficult ones for me to carry out…and nurse along for the months and years ahead. I THANK ALL OF YOU.

Valerie

FLASH UPDATE:
12 NOON

the OR room is unavailable today due to emergency priorities. Friday will be our targeted date. Laine is having a tracheoscomy as I write to better her ventilating and possible breathing on her own. I will update later tonight or tomorrow regarding her procedure today.

Oh God that made me cry. I am so, so sorry. Strength to Laine, her mom, the whole family, Frodo’s people.

Oh, this just breaks your heart. That poor girl, that poor family. What a horrible tragedy.
I wish them strength and some modicum of peace. It’s hard to imagine what it must be like to be at the center of that maelstrom. With all the discussion and controversy on the heels of this terrible accident, you have to remember it all happened in a split few seconds. We have the luxury of time–Lainey and Frodo did not. My heart goes out to them. :frowning:

Oh my god. I’m just sobbing away. That poor, poor girl. What ever she may or may not have done, or what ever errors she may have made, NO ONE deserves that. It just breaks my heart.

I would recommend that nobody send anything written to the hospital until Valerie Ashker has broken the news to her daughter. Though we obviously have no idea when that will happen, we should respect her wishes in this matter. When Laine is feeling better or at least stabilized, those who wish to do so can figure out something to show her that we stand with her in her time of grief and healing.

yup, that made me cry. Again.

I think it would be wise to wait to send things to the hospital until Ms. Ashker gives the word.

This is so incredibly sad.:frowning: I wish strength to Laine and her family to get them through this, I simply cannot imagine what they are going through.

God bless Laine and Valerie and place your protecting and loving arms around them

Give Valerie the strength and wisdom of a caregiver protecting her health in the process; give Laine the strength to heal emotionally and physically.

God give Valerie the rights words at the right time and give superhuman comfort to Laine at that time

amen

Laine and family you are forever in my thoughts! Frodo will never be forgotten! I pray Valerie has the strength and the wisdom to do what is right for Laine!

Keep up the jingles everyone!
