Lainey Ashker: What happened?

I think some of y’all are reading too much into what was probably initially a spur-of-the-moment reaction to feeling as though she let her horse down following a disappointing round.

Was it necessarily a great idea to post it to social media? Maybe not. But I can’t help but feel that she could cure cancer and save all the starving children in third world countries and many on this board still wouldn’t forgive her for her prior sins.

Spur of the moment, aka 1 post, sure I could understand that. A post every day since… not so much. We get it, move on Lainey.

I can totally relate to feeling down and awful about it, and yes I have posted it on social media, but its a one time thing, you post a picture and say, man that sucked. The next day is a new day to be positive, so lets move on Lainey.

I’ve been there, done that and worn the t-shirt. We all have our own battles, but my goodness, she’s a professional trying to make a career of this. Posting stuff like that makes you not think she’s a confident professional.

Fake it until you make it.

okay, thanks - deleting my post - don’t want to potentially post incorrect information about sad death of eight saint james

Plus I watched the round, and honestly it wasn’t that bad. Speaking as a straight show jumper sometimes you just go out and pull some rails…it even happens to Rodrigo Pessoa. Really just the vertical after the triple was maybe the only one that was egregious. And the horse certainly didn’t look bothered.

But is she trying to cure cancer or help others in ANY way? Or is she helping herself by unnecessarily setting up Paypal donation links targeted towards her young Instagram audience in an effort to gain monetarily ONLY to then flaunt a new Apple iWatch less than a week later?? Coincidentally, her thirsty mom followed suit and created a PayPal donation link recently…

I find it humorous that she has next to no followers over the age of 18 but at the same time, I understand that the average brain is not fully cultured until adulthood. Does anyone else notice that her Instagram count tends to increase by the hundred by the hour? Systematic increases just like when followers are purchased as opposed to gained by popularity…

Keep up the good work Ashker.

This is probably the insomnia talking, but your post rubbed me the wrong way. In your last paragraph, are you insinuating that the majority of followers only do so because they haven’t hit adulthood yet? As in, they don’t know better/they’ll grow out of it? I understand that many of the younger crowd love her because of the “cool” factor, but she also has some fans for more legitimate reasons.

Also, saying that virtually no one over the age of 18 follows her on social media, but then in the same breath clearly describing posts she’s made…either you’re under 18, or you’re disproving your own statements.

Thanks for your comment. To your second notation, I was referring to her followers, of which I am not one. I do agree that she most likely has fans for some legitimate reasons as well. Although in my opinion I find her shameless solicitation of those folks, regardless of age, in bad taste. Here’s to agreeing to disagree. Cheers!

Thanks for clarifying.

For someone who claims to not follow Lainey on social media, you seem to know an awful lot about her supposed marketing plan, Instagram campaign, and number of followers per hour.

I have to say, it kind of rubs me the wrong way when someone creates a new account/alter for the express purpose of bashing someone.

Those that do follow her on Instagram, is there any truth to her asking for donations and using them to buy an Apple Watch?

Dont misconstrue words. If you need to, reread my post. Additionally, I got logged out of my old account but your humorous assumptions are appreciated. On that note I have a flight to catch. Are you also bored to tears sitting at a gate waiting for an international flight? Or is this your standard 5AM MO? Hilarious.

You must love to hate her, so much that you follow her?

I am not much of a fan of her, but I definitely don’t watch the numbers of her instagram account. Why do you know that it fluctuates so much? Heck I don’t even know how many followers I have, not something I pay attention to.

Although I’m curious, why would a working student want to work for her, with an ad that states not paid, but you can bring your horse and pay for board with it. Seems a little odd. Usually if its not paid, at least the horse is covered. I don’t know why any parent would send their teenager to work and not get something out of it, yes you learn to groom and all that jazz, but you can find that with a bit more incentives, especially with the enormous amounts of ads posted on EN. Wonder if your travel is even covered? Such a weird ad I thought. You want a long term groom or someone who will last longer than 6 months… then you might want to give a little more than working for someone ‘awesome’.

I wonder if she realizes that the grammar of that comment insinuates that she is gay?!

This really seems like a tempest in a teapot. We are talking about a remark on her personal, not eventing page, right?

Whatever you think of her career or social media persona, she’s hardly the first person to whine about her job, or post something less than professional on her personal page.

Wow. There’s an ugly statement.

Do her sponsors know about this side of her? And do they stick with her anyway?

Whoa.

Although not right, its from 2014… so I’m sure her sponsors came after that. I hope.

There appears to be no distinction between her personal and professional twitter accounts.

It’s from about 15 months ago. Not exactly the dark ages.

‘Young and dumb’ doesn’t apply to that tweet. There are other terms that apply better, like ‘homophobic’ and ‘mean-spirited’. To me, this is especially shameful in a sport that has a modern history of openness and equality.

Lainey, sorry about the three rails. You deserved more, like maybe ten rails and also a couple of stops.
