Any experience on Lakota slant load with LQ? Bear with me this is my first post and will be my first trailer with LQ. We are looking at 2018 and a used one from 2006. Any advice is very welcome!
Bumper pull or gooseneck?
I have one that I purchased last fall. Gooseneck, 23’ long, 2 horse slant load with 13’ shortwall LQ and auto slideout and auto awning. 2017 model, brand new. Stunningly beautiful trailer. I really, really love it. But there are a few things you need to look for when buying.
PM me. We can talk.
Gooseneck. I will be using it to travel from Illinois to Arizona in the winter months. Perhaps a couple summer weekend trips in the Midwest.
Our dog trainers have a Lakota GN LQ trailer with a stock back end, I think about 34’ on the ground. It’s a good quality trailer, but they’ve worked very closely with the dealer to have several things adjusted after they initially got it. The company is improving with time and they have some great ideas on engineering.
Hopefully they’ve greatly improved the quality of the welds since I last saw one a few years ago. A trained chimpanzee could have done better welding.
The quality of the welds on my 2017 made my son swoon with joy - and he does specialized welding for custom parts. He said it was the best he’d ever seen, especially on a horse trailer. Frankly, I never would have noticed how nice they were if he hadn’t pointed it out (it was the first thing he looked at), but I think I would have seen if they were sloppy or crappy or looking like they were done on a Monday morning after a rough weekend (cough my-1997-steel-stock-gooseneck-trailer cough)
My 2017 Lakota LQ trailer is stunning, pulls great, has lots of custom touches that the mfr did very happily at my request, and is just a joy to use. So perhaps they have come a long way since entering the horse trailer market from the RV “Toy Hauler” market a few years back. Only thing I would have liked is maybe a bit more room per stall in the back, but it compares equally to all the other slant loads I’ve seen.
I give them 5 gold stars for their Customer Service, AND for their mfr in-house management in working with the customer to give the customer exactly what they want. Friendly, polite, helpful, and VERY responsive.
Glad to hear that GoTheDistance!!!
The late Mr. C’Mare and I looked at them back in 2010 and went EEK! at the welds…my dad has been a welder for 50+ years.
Thank you ALL for your thoughtful responses, especially Go the Distance. Helps a lot! Your first-hand experiences and knowledge is invaluable to someone like me. I fear the 2006 is too small for our purposes and the 2018 only if I have the courage to face the financial burden. I am now on to Sundowner, Exiss, Sooner and American Spirit. Amer. Spirit is SCARY but it looks like it has all that I need and I don’t have to drive 8 hours to see it. THANKS ALL!!!
