Laminitis / Founder question

Have you and your vet been able to isolate the cause of the laminitis? Was it brought on by Cushings, was it dietary? I’m sure because the horse is on Pergolide that it is a Cushinoid horse and you know to avoid steroids, but do you know if it is also insulin resistant? If your horse is both Cushinoid and (I’m guessing hypo) thyroid, then it has some significant dietary restrictions. Grazing muzzle, carb safe grain and low sugar hay are going to be your best friends. It might be worth it for you and your vet to have a discussion about previcox/equiox instead of bute, as your horse may require more long term pain management.

Good luck, laminitis is scary.
