In this year of extremely talented fillies and mares it is nice to think back. Named for a hunting guide, she died tragically.
I first heard about her when she started racing. A friend of mine from home who practiced law in Atlanta when I did was a racehorse owner. Murray knew that I always loved the fillies, and he told me that D. Wayne Lucas had a nice filly that he was going to aim towards the triple crown races. She died of a fever or something before she could show us whether she could win the big races.
D. Wayne Lucas had a couple of other good fillies too.
I was going going to go watch her run in the Starlet and was heartbroken when she died.
I had forgotten she was buried at the track of lakes and flowers. Glad she was able to go home to Spendthrift.
