L'Apogee XC saddle

Has anyone ridden in this saddle? http://www.lapogeesaddles.com/clxi_crosscountry.html

I found a used one for a steal of a price, and it is really similar to the Ioldy in design. The Ioldy fit me perfectly but the panels just did not fit my horse. :frowning: I still like the Chiberta but really prefer the flap placement of the Ioldy.

Similarly, does anyone have a Voltaire Elkton? It is nearly the exact same design as both the Ioldy and the CLX. I would be using this saddle for both XC and show jumping, hopefully up to Prelim and maybe I one day in the future (I can dream right??). I’m just curious as to how people feel SJ in saddles ā€œlabeledā€ for XC. I get that the flap is higher and forward, but that’s what fits my leg well. I would definitely be doing a trial before purchasing anything, even a custom saddle.

Indy, I still want to try the Bliss when you’re in my area!!

I think it’s perfectly fine to use an XC saddle for SJ. I don’t know of many eventers (even upper level ones) that use a separate saddle for SJ than for XC, so I think you’ll be fine!

As far as the models you’ve inquired about, I know someone who had the CLX and several years later went to the Elkton. She liked both, I think it was more of a preference of sponsorship when she went with Voltaire.

I don’t either, but I am always curious when a saddle is labeled a XC saddle. I’ve never seen anyone with three saddles at an event, so I’m not sure who they are marketing to…

If I could find a used Voltaire with my reqs I would snatch it up in a heartbeat. I love their saddles. I was almost swayed into a new one at Rolex but thankfully I put down the champagne.

I’ve ridden in both the chiberta and l’apogee. I think the closest comparison to l’apogee is the chiberta Devoucoux in the feel of the leather and make. (So if you like the chiberta, I think you would like the l’apogee just as much) I prefer l’apogee. I think it can easily be used for sj and xc. It’s quite a nice saddle to flat horses in all day. I think the makers thought a lot about rider’s comfort on this saddle versus my amerigo pinerolo which is not a ā€œcomfortableā€ saddle, however I think my amerigo fits the horses better and I like my knee flocking better in my pinerolo, it’s not as protruding which is what I’m use to riding in.
If you prefer a large knee panel l’apogee is the way to go.

My personal preferences are to dressage in the l’apogee and jump in my amerigo.

I have a L’apogee CLXI. It is my favorite jumping saddle that I have ever ridden in. I have ridden in devocouxs and they are very similar, but L’apogee has slightly larger knee panels. I think L’apogee is a very underrated brand and you can get them for a much better deal than devocouxs just because they aren’t as well known and don’t have reps in the US. However, the quality is definitely on par with devocouxs and in fact I’ve found the leather to hold up better.

Awesome. I’m pretty excited about this saddle. I’ve gotten a ton of details from the seller and it sounds like it might work, and the price point is unbeatable.
