Okay, so I just heard from a friend of mine who gets hay out of NY (Finger lakes area) from a broker. Broker said he was concerned about a hay shortage due to some big supplier shipping 500 tons a month to China. Those that are in the business (Tamara, etc, etc) would you know if this is indeed true?
sure...large amounts go to S Korea and Vietnam and China every month...but this is dairy hay normally and does not affect the horse hays grown here...
hay is short from the latest mag I got today says alfalfa production will be the lowest this year since 1988 and the yield numbers suggest that the best land was put into row crops...
which we already knew when everyone bought the seed this spring…and when fuel went up for farmers three years ago and no one outside farming cared until they could’nt go to the Mall in the mini van…so the losses form 2 and 3 years ago have no chouce but to be made up now in something that pays more reliably and with less hassle than hay…
Larsen Farms is who is doing it. I just read it. Started in May of this year. I heard they are the largest supplier of Timothy in the US. Is that true?

ack
BTW I shot calvin an email
I did not know they grew any timothy…only alfalfa rotated in potates…and Larsen is not alone in shipping…I think that there are about 15 or 20 exporters to the Pacific Rim…
