NM, dumb question. :o
Welcome back.
There are never any dumb questions…
If you browse around the forum a bit you’ll find there are currently 3 threads on rider weight/height vs. horse size.
I think you'll find the overall consenus is that appropriate rider size to horse size works best, j ust as appropriate rider skill to horse skill works best.
There are a lot of CTR riders in your area...why not contact a few through your local ectra chapter? Perhaps they know of a few horses already fit and experienced for sale??
Lucky you to ride the Arcadia .. lovely area/ my cousin just moved up there and loves it!
Pretty good donnybrooks can get started around here over weight ratios.
A person with long legs on a short horse can have other difficulties, because their foot will be well below the bottom line of the horse and that makes precise use of the leg difficult. I know a lady who has a 38" inseam and used to ride a 14.2 Arab. Her spurs were worn just below her calf muscle.
If you watch some of Kirk Douglas’ last films (The War Wagon and The Villain*) he’s wearing his spurs on the ankle of his boots. His legs were just too long for the horse he’s riding.
If the horse has a good sized barrel and just has short cannons then this may not really be an issue.

*The War Wagon was something of a clinker, but The Villain was a real scream. Kirk plays Cactus Jack, a total scoundrel. Arnold, in his second English language film, plays Handsome Stranger (yes, that’s the character’s name). The fun comes as the plot continuously recreates Wile E. Coyote vs. Roadrunner scenarios, with Jack as Wile E. and Handsome as the Roadrunner. Anne Margaret looks on while looking good. It’s a real “sidesplitter”!!!
I was looking for a good movie to watch tonight …

as many puns as Airport!
thanks :)
Not a comment about weight at all, but even when considering height of rider & height of horse require more specific details.
You can have a long legged rider on a tall, slab-sided horse & it will look all wrong. A shorter horse with a nice spring to the rib cage can take up leg.
That said, I can’t imagine a 38" inseam on a 14’2" horse, no matter how round he is!! Have you seen the Thelwell cartoon with the guy wearing roller skates?

She hunted and did Dressage on the horse. It was a rather unusual sight.
But she also happened to be an excellent rider and she made it work for her. After a couple of glasses of wine she’d admit that maybe it was not her best possible choice.
Size-matching can be strictly based upon form, but it’s better when it’s based upon function.

Oh God, that was funny! Especially since I’m married to an Austrian. (Who speaks much better English and is better looking. )

My neighbor had a young , tall and very narrow built horse for her husband to ride. He was very tall and when he tried to kick the horse all he got was air and it was not a good match at all.
