Large Size Antares Helmet - Unapproved

So I was lucky enough to receive an Antares helmet as a Christmas gift from a customer. However, when I finally got fitted, something odd happened. I’m a size Large, so the rep placed the order for the Large in the color I wanted. A few days later I get an email from them asking me to sign this waiver before they give the workshop the green light to make the helmet. Odd. I open said waiver. It basically says the large size is not certified by the ASTM/SEI yet and if I fall off and break my head, I won’t sue Antares.

I’m meeting with the rep on Monday to ask him some questions (such as why are S & M sizes approved but not L), but I was curious if anyone else had dealt with this, or knew why they’re not approved.

Disclaimer - I’m aware that in order to compete in USEF comps I need an approved one (although I doubt they’d know this one wasn’t) and that I should wear an approved one to protect my squishy brain.

Website also states larges are ‘Not for North America’

My guess is that they simply don’t sell many and thus never bothered to get it ASTM approved. As it seems to be approved everywhere else.

That said ASTM is one of the tougher ones to pass, it may be that the larger sizes don’t cover enough of the head or cannot handle the additional weight.

What size is considered “large”? I have a 7 1/8 Antares helmet that I bought from the rep in Kentucky. I mean I’m sure it’s ok since I’ve bought it from the rep and shown in it but I’m curious to see what size they consider to start the “large”

There are three sizes. Small, medium and large. For each size they include three different sets of padding. I’ve seen some places selling them as 7 1/8 etc as yours is. However, they just didn’t give you all three sets of padding. Have a look at the Antares website. Yours is a medium.
