Large straight edge lightweight mats

I just got back from a show, and currently we use 3x4 interlocking lightweight mats in the aisle. As they have aged a bit they don’t interlock like they used to, and seem to be reaching the end of there life and so I am looking for new mats. I have seen some that are a bit thicker, almost 1 inch, also larger, like 4x6. Does anyone know where you can get them? They are straight edge and look like they are way less work to put down and pick up. any ideas?

Wow, these look interesting.

(But ouch the price!)

Tractor Supply has straight edge and interlocking stall mats.

yes but they are very heavy, looking for lightweight mats, I typically cover 6’x60’ that would be almost 1400 lbs, very hard to pack up and move at the end of the show, and adds a lot of extra weight

Just remember that a 4x6x3/4" is going to weigh just under 100 lbs and they don’t roll up very easily.

our barns have 4x6x1" mats that we purchased in 1990, there is Not an easy way to move these as they weigh about 120 pounds each

We now have these EZ Grip tools to grasp the mats with IF we ever need to move them and that IF is a bigtime IF as these mats are not easy to move about (before we used vise grips)

Most of our mats have Not Been moved in over thirty years

this is like the tool we have to grasp the mats, it commonly available

For a show, even a lengthy one, we do not use mats we just bed deeply.

Also easy to move mats with these welding vicegrips:

If you want them 1" thick, they are likely going to have to be EVA foam or something similar. Rubber will not be lightweight at that thickness.

Not sure why you’re putting mats down in the aisle, but maybe try the anti-fatigue mats with the holes?

I use regular vise grips to move mats when needed.

We show clydesdales, it helps keep the feather clean, and it also helps them from slipping on the slick concrete. as well as they have to stand there for quite a while and it makes it easier on their joints.

I wonder if a company like this could set you up. Maybe reach out with your needs to see what they can do?

Try here, I’ve seen these at QH Congress.

We just received a shipment of them and each skid (25 per I think?) was heavy enough that our big tractor was groaning off loading them. I have no idea what one would do with a compact tractor or no tractor! I can’t imagine a 3/4” mat exists that isn’t heavy??

The last time I installed rubber mats it was one of the most gruelling tasks ever. I’m not looking forward to doing it again.

I actually didn’t realize I ordered smooth mats. Last time they were textured. Hoping they aren’t slippery.

I am wracking my brain and may shoot a text to my former boss about this. We had one or two rounds of mats in the dairy barn (they get replaced a few at a time often and new products tried) that were light blue and light green on top and bottom and light grey/almost white in the middle. They were probably 1.25" thick, very comfortable, even more non slip than textured black rubber, and lightweight. IIRC they were slightly higher price than regular 3/4" rubber mats, but not by much. They may have been imported from Ireland or my memory may be playing silly buggers - not sure which. The size may also have been slightly larger/wider than standard 4x6 mats.

If I can find them I’ll pop back to let you know.

Meanwhile the description is here in case anyone else wants to take a crack at wringing information out of Google.

those are what I am looking for, I just cant find them anywhere. Currently I have https://www.therubberman.com/details/interlocking-trulite-full-size-trmtrulite these are great, only weighing 18 lbs, I just want bigger and with no interlocking edges.

Closest I can find is these: https://www.horsematscanada.com/stall/interlocking/silvertec/

I did figure out that you’re after EVA mats though. I also figured out that there are tons available in Europe, UK, and China and not so much in North America :frowning:

Call them. They probably have the capability to make them any size you need for an extra charge.
