Larry Jones assistant . . .

. . . seeks PhD in horsemanship. Tells girlfriend of 5 years that his time for her will be limited. That is either extrordinary professional dedication or stupidity. Makes me think the song “Only the lonely,” a Roy Orbinson hit, was written for horsemen working on the backstretch.

Sometimes living life and accomplishing what you want out of life means being a little selfish. I applaud him for having the dedication to chase a PHD and improve his education. As someone who was in a relationship for 8 years (non married) and walked away to better myself; It is not an easy decision and while I do lead a very lonely life sometimes; I take the good with the bad. I am doing what I want with my life everyday and I don’t have anyone to answer to. Perhaps in the future; there will be time for love but seek the opportunity while you can

I applaud his dedication. The guy is one year out of college. At that age he needs to set himself up for a successful career more than he needs to see his girlfriend every night.

I don’t see any difference between his long hours and a businessman working 80 hours a week. Everone who is dedicated to his or her career has imited time for their spouse. It’s the way life (usually) works. Andre Stock is wise to put in the time now when he has a great opportunity to learn from one of the best.

Your point is well taken. I was being a little sarcastic. A young man in a five year relationship tells girlfriend he will have limited time for her? He gets an A for honesty and maybe a C- or D for diplomacy. One can only hope she is a patient woman if she loves him.

Otherwise, five stars to the young man for his enthusiasm and work ethic. He definitely picked a great mentor.

Hopefully the woman is busy getting her own PhD in case his training business tanks as obviously the horse industry is not one that is exactly healthy right now. Chances are, she’ll support him before he supports her.

For most horsemen you describe a match made in heaven.

Andre and Laurel are great (together and individually). She definitely understands his goals (and is in the racing industry herself) and he hers. There are a lot of relationships with young people in the sport that are questionable about lasting, but I can see them making it a long, long time. It helps that they are both very down to earth and very focused on what they want to achieve professionally.
