Lawsuit involving Caroline Roffman, Benjamin Meredith, Richard Rockfeller-Silvia

I didn’t see this posted here. Some discussion over on the dressage forum.

Put in Roffman as the last name to find the court documents.

There is a massive thread about it over in dressage. Why post it over here?

Because it involves a jumper. There is no massive thread about this lawsuit over in dressage.

There’s two threads over in dressage - one of which you’ve commented on with a rather obtuse post alleging abuse of the horse for no relevant reason.

For those who do not read the dressage form I don’t see why it shouldn’t be posted here as it now involves a show jumper. The story has evolved. Anyone interested in reading the topic over in the dressage form here is the link: https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/forum/discussion-forums/dressage/9891040-lawsuit-in-florida-alleged-fraud-in-sale-of-fabrege-case-settled-post-340

Thanks for sharing. I saw this on FB and thought “great, here we go again”.

The massive thread in the dressage forum was about a dressage horse. This one is about a jumper, and the two plaintiffs are very different as well. The dressage thing was about an alleged fraudulent sale of a dressage horse owned by a very knowledgeable person. The jumper suit is about money given for the purchase of a horse by an elderly woman who has no knowledge of equestrian sport.

One does wonder why Federal and state criminal authorities are not interested in the activities of Roffman et al, since their modus operandi does reek of wire fraud.

That’s a shame, harks back to the Helen Brach dealings.

Great recall - and yes… sadly it does sound VERY similar.

the con that is, hopefully not quite that sinister…

Actually, this thing has taken its own sinister turn. Check out the threads over in the Dressage forums… if this is a con, they picked a pretty scary individual to try and pull it on. She’s been convicted of attempted murder for hire, and suspected of attempted murder…

Wow. What a trainwreck over there. Why are people so sketchy!? :frowning:

Anything to do with the name Rothchild, Rockefeller and Winsor is evil. Stay away from those families.

What a bizarre story! Seems like it should be on TV not real life!

Wasn’t there a tv true crime story done on this Aron woman after she tried to hire someone to kill her hubby? Not that her prior convictions should influence whether someone is allowed to defraud her.

Found this online: https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2…-killing-case/

Yes, that’s a true story… but her dealings were real estate and she wanted to rise politically… I think her husband wasn’t even on the top her hit list IRRC,

Helen Brach - candy heiress got involved with horses, handsome younger “trainer” who convinced her to buy some fancy horses at above market though they were probably OTTB. She went missing and has never been found, some of the same cast of characters mixed up with Barney Ward and the horse insurance fraud.

And finally wasn’t there already a fake Rockafeller who murdered some people, totally lied to his wife, kidnapped their daughter - she had no idea he was a fake.

^ you and I clearly watch the same true crime shows on TV!

Yeah - this thing is almost a blend of all those stories…

Updates to this whole case…

https://applications.mypalmbeachclerk.com/eCaseView/

Requests for production have been made. Roffman and Meredith have submitted answers and an affirmative defense. They seem to be alleging the plaintiff and RRS conned them. RRS has filed a claim of indigency with the court saying he lives off minimal money given to him by his father ($100 a week or something) and is essentially bankrupt

RRS also filled a motion to Dismiss claiming Roffman and Meredith conned him, and his partner Ruthann. He’s alleging this whole thing was another fraudulent situation set up by Roffman and Meredith where Ruthann wired money to a European bank account to buy a 50% share of a horse that she and RRS were told was 900,000… Only to have the person they wired money to come up with a reason not to supply them with papers. A few months later they find out someone else actually owned the horse and had him for sale for $270,000. There are definite parallels to the case Roffman just went throufh with Alice Tarjan… except for the fact that she had BOATLOADS more credibility than these characters. At this point, it’s not clear who owns the poor horse anymore (Lebron), but it turns out he is having tendon issues and is uninsured (per the lawsuit docs).

It seems be a case of multiple [edit]… And this Ruthann person they all targeted… Which was a poor poor decision.

Crazy.

Side note, many horses are uninsured once they hit the mid 6 figure bracket. Premiums are chokingly high, even for “rich” people. PPEs are not the same up on those rarified levels either. Recent vet records are made available to buyers as few vets want to be on the hook for a disputed opinion on a horse valued at half a million or more.
