LD/Camping Rides around New England?

Anyone know any benefit/LD trail rides around the NE area? I attended a “LD Camping Ride” in SC and loooooooved it but not familiar with the trail riding scene in NE… It was an all day and overnight type deal - we stayed O/N at this pole-barn type set-up and it was so fun. Something similar exist up north in the summer? Hunter paces are fun but aren’t long enough for me! Even some all day long distance rides would work too with a friend or two.

I’m in Western/Central MA, but could travel.

The Vermont Horse Council has several camping trail rides during the year. there is one in Tunbridge, and the Northeast Kingdom area has a couple.

I have friends who took their horses to Acadia National park and loved it

Happy trails!

exactly what I was looking for! Thanks all! Maybe I’ll see some of you on the trails this spring?

For casual rides, also look at NEATO (New England Arabian Trail Organization) – they have a couple camping weekends a year, mostly in Connecticut and RI. Actually, I think NEATO is now holding a couple of two-day endurance-style rides too. Also check out the Green Mountain Horse Association; they run a couple of LDs, I think, as well as having casual trail riding days (but the trails up and down the hills are no joke. The road rides are lovely, but you get off of the road and into the woods, you are mountain hiking. Get a breast collar. ). There is, or used to be, an LD run out of a barn near Mt. Toby in central Mass; I think it was called the Leverett Ride? I think it was through the American Competitive Trail Association, but not sure. Also, there used to be an endurance ride out of southern Maine — maybe S.M.A.R.T (Southern Maine something something something). New England Equestrian Center of Athol (NEECA) runs a couple of casual camping rides, I think. As others have said, New England Horse and Trail often lists these rides. NEHT probably won’t have much listed now, but give it a couple months and by April, most of the rides start being listed. Many of the rides posted on NEHT will be casual friendly low-key rides of one or two marked loops, short loops of 5-8 miles and long loops of 12 to 18 miles, with lunch served back at the trailers. They can be a really nice way to see new trails. Many people do ride in small groups with their friends, and others are perfectly comfortable riding solo.

For endurance rides, here you go; I see the Leverett ride, the NEATO ride, GMHA, and Maine, though not much information yet: http://ectra.org/cms/calendar-list/year.listevents/2016/02/11/

a url for trail riding in America

I have a subscrition to The Trail Rider and that shows reviews, and all types of rides in the NE area, and also breaks it down to states and areas.

Hope that helps.

I’m hoping to get the mare out and about this spring, though I have found that we really need to buddy up with another rider/mare pair (or more) as she is much calmer about “other horses all over the place” when she has her own little herd. Or I ride her alone, she is fantastic that way.

We’re short-distance riders, and I have never camped with her, but maybe we’ll see you anyway. Located in central-northeastern-Mass, may be moving to the North Shore of MA in the spring. There are some very nice places to ride around here!

I dream of going to Mt Acadia to trail ride!
