Leather Collar

IIRC, the last Quillin raised collar I purchased was in the $80 range? Not cheap, but also not $129 ;)
And I’ll bet with the nearly 30% exchange rate to convert to Cdn$, plus shipping and customs brokerage charges, it would be pretty close!

I have a Perry’s leather collar for my dog and matching bracelet for myself, and both are holding up well. My bracelet regularly gets wet, allowed to air dry, is thrown on the seat of my car for days on end, etc and still looks just fine. My dog collar is treated like a dog would treat a collar and again looks just fine. I have never given either any leather treatment and they are soft.
Love the Perri’s collars for a really nice, supple padded leather and under $30! Comes in great colors too!

My dogs both have collars from Tack Shack of Ocala. I got them either last year or the year before, but they’ve held up nicely and I really like them. Great price too. We have these: http://www.tackshackocala.com/cupadogco.html

I have a leather collar from Greenhawk (Canada’s big box tack store) - it was like 20 dollars on sale, I think. The leather isn’t the nicest ever, but it’s not bad. It looks good and I have gotten many compliments on it, even more so now that it has a fancy nameplate. It’s held up really well over the last couple months. I give it a wipe down if I’m cleaning tack to keep it fresh looking.

My dog spends a lot of time at the barn - swimming, running through brush, rolling in the manure pile. I can’t imagine her doing that with a collar that costs more than 30 bucks (let alone one that costs 129!). When my dog’s cheap leather collar gets junky looking, no problem, I’ll just buy a new one.

I ordered from Hilltop Leather and they were great! We get compliments on them all the time. Great to deal with, and good prices too.

Just wanted to add I got a message from Hilltop and they are taking orders until tomorrow, and then not again till after January 4 - they get inundated for the holidays!

Ha! Good point!

Like others who recommended them… I just bought one of these and it’s way nicer than my expectations of it were. It is exactly like a high quality padded horse halter. I got the black/black which comes with silver hardware. My German Shepherd looks quite fetching in it!

The sizing was a bit funky though… I ordered an XL which should have fit my dog with a 24" neck, but I had to to return it and go down a size.

Thanks everyone! Kimstar made a good point about the unfavourable exchange rate for us Canadians right now. I like the one from Dover, that’s what I’m looking for. I’ll just have to decide if international shipping is worth it.

I’ve looked at the Greenhawk ones and I don’t like how the edges are unfinished, looked like they just cut a strip of leather and stitched it. The rolled ones from Greenhawk are my backup as they looked a little more finished, however I wouldn’t be able to put a name plate on it.

Have you tried Bahr’s? ren’s Pet Depot? They may have what you are looking for.

Oh! willow equestrian in Guelph has lovely dog collars.

Unfortunately I’m living in Alberta right now, not Ontario. Most of the tack shops out here are geared to western riders so even the dog collars are blinged out.

Fincham’s Harness also makes a nice padded dog collar. They are located in Ontario, but I would imagine they would ship.
