Leather dog collars

I’m looking for a leather dog collar for my dogs. I’ve found some on etsy that I really like but they’re from Ukraine. Any one have any experience with ordering leather goods from overseas?

I know I’ve always been cautioned against ordering leather horse supplies from overseas because of the different leather quality and curing methods.

Is it the same for dog collar?s

I’m not familiar with Etsy - are there reviews for this sellers products? A ton of leather products come from overseas so I would say there’s all kind of quality levels out there, as with everything else. Is there a return policy if you don’t like it?

I use just a fairly simple leather collar with padding that Perri’s makes and sells on Amazon. It’s nice quality leather, good hardware and they last. They’re also quite economical - the medium is only $26+ on Amazon.

I have the rolled leather collar with the nameplate from Quillans - as shown on their home page. It is custom sized.
It comes in a pale, new leather, but very soon the oils in the dog’s coat soften it to a nice dark brown supple leather.
The engraving is very deep and visible and the brass hardware top quality.

I’m a bit of a leather ho - love quality tack, leather and shoes!

I really like the stuff from Quillin. I use their rolled collars for puppies and my grown up dogs graduate to a raised collar from them–it’s not on the website, but it’s really, really nice and worth calling about.

I got the smartpak collars for all my dogs. They are very beautiful and the name plate makes comes already attached. You do want to beware that the large to xl is a huge jump in size though. You get 20% off right now I believe.

When I first started in horses and buying my own tack you absolutely did NOT want to buy Indian leather anything. The strap good could actually be dangerous because it would break at inopportune times. Argentine leather was cheap and marginally safe.
I recently have gotten a few nice basic new schooling bridles that are made in India. The quality on them is very nice and I have no worry about how they were cured or them being dangerous.
I have less worries about overseas leather than when I was much younger.

Maybe you can post the link for the collar you like from etsy and somebody from COTH may be able to find you one like it from a better known source.

I got a really nice one from Smartpak. It comes with a nameplate that you can have engraved and holds up very well. It wasn’t terribly expensive and considering how my dog loves to swim/roll in mud etc. it has held up wonderfully!

This might be a good option, I still get my color but likely in a better quality product.
