Leather girths

Looking for a leather show girth for my hunter, I love the way they look but hate how most of them seem to have super hard, stiff elastic. I want a leather girth with stretchier elastic closer to what’s on the pro choice neoprene girths or even a lot of the fuzzy girths. Does that exist?

Anyone have any experience with these two? Looks like they only have double elastic, not triple so I wonder if it would be more stretchy.

I have this one and really like it. As a bonus the navy elastic looks a lot sharper than tan and doesn’t get that dingy look.

I have this one sitting at home in a box and I can let you know how it is when I get home next week

I ordered a beautiful leather girth from Remarkable Leather Goods - she has plain leather or padded with sheepskin. I haven’t used ours as the horse has been in rehab and has also “outgrown” the size I purchased.

I saw that one. It’s very pretty. What is the elastic like?

The EquiFit hunter girth is definitely a splurge, but looks very nice and the horses seem to like it. If you can get a code from someone sponsored by then, it helps a little! You can wash the insert. The elastic is black which looks classy and is not overly stiff. I have had mine for 3-4 years and they are holding up nicely.

I have the one with the blue elastic. It isn’t as stretchy as a pro choice elastic though. But the blue looks nice and crisp still despite lots of use.

I’ll check when I get home and let you know!

The elastic is brown and is pretty sturdy. As my girth has never even been on a horse, I’m not sure how long it will take for the elastic to soften.

It is beautiful, tho :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Love my leather Fairfax girth but it took a couple months for the elastic to get soft like you are describing.

@TwoStrides don’t get the Smart Pak one - I just opened it and it’s fake leather on the underside :roll_eyes: sending it back.

The elastic gives after using them and doesn’t touch the horse. I personally like leather girths the best for fit and comfort.

I just bought this girth and I love it!

I hate them and only use them because they look nice for the hunter ring :rofl: Have to crank them so tight just to feel like my saddle is secure. I really like that with the pro choice type girths you don’t have to actually tighten as much. But don’t love their look for the show ring.

Did you find that the Equifit hunter girth runs small? I’m leaning towards it but heard it may run small, I currently use a 54” pro choice that usually goes on hole 3 on both sides, wondering if I should size up to 56”

Yes! The Equifit girth I bought was small. I’m hoping the elastic stretches a bit.

Yes, definitely. I bought a 50" for two of my horses who have always been a normal 50" size, and it is very snug! But to be fair, all of my other girths are used used used, and so undoubtedly much more stretched out than a new 50. Hoping the elastic relaxes a bit, or else I will be adding a 52" for my [formerly 50"] crew!
