So, after my last horse show, I noticed my saddle was leaving dye marks on my tan breeches. I sweat (sigh) a lot and it seems that it’s pulling the dye out of the saddle. It is a 20 year old saddle and been ridden in and cleaned plenty of times, so I’m confused. DH tried sealing the problem area (not the whole saddle) with Resolene, but it is already wearing off after a few weeks. Any ideas on what to do with this? Thanks!
There are numerous threads on saddles staining breeches if you search the forum. Mine does this, especially in summer. There are some tips and tricks to remove stains in the threads. but in my opinion and experience, it happens to most everyone unless the saddle is smooth, grain leather. Buffalo, calf, etc, leach dye.
I like Bee Natural Leather Finish which I used after dyeing a saddle black, but YMMV. Here are some options: https://www.weaverleathersupply.com/c/products/shop_now/leather_care/dyes_paints_finishes/finishes/top_coats_leather_sealers
