I’ll be getting on the road in about a half an hour to go to Warrenton (well, actually going to Middleburg in order to attend Warrenton )
Hope to be cheering some of you on Sunday evening!

Woo-hoo! I’ll be there Sunday to hoot for some of our juniors. Can’t wait!
I’ll be there - one of my all-time favorite annual events.
Why don’t we meet up - maybe at 5 pm at the new Noel Twyman memorial reception thing under the tent? Who knows who so we can make sure to all hook up? Anybody that doens’t know any of the Virginia crowd ask for me, Betsy Parker (Hunter’s Rest), or (I’m assuming) Star Belson (Watery Glen) or Jessica Swan (JSwan.) I’d love to meet some of you other guys who are visiting from exotic lands. : o )
We will be in Warrenton/Middleburg/The Plains most of tomorrow, hopefully we will get over to the show in the afternoon.
I’m up here in Williamsburg visiting my husband and we have a kennel tour set up over at Orange County tomorrow so that’s why we are going Saturday instead ofSunday. Sneakign in some shopping too
HR - good idea to meet up at the tent at 5pm.
I’ll be there - folks who don’t know me just look for a fat chick with dark hair walking kinda hunched over and listing to one side.
I’ll be riding in the ss on a catch ride, but will be at MGP’s tailgate afterwards. It is under “Century Oaks Farm” or “Kathy Borsody” (I can’t remember which one) near the grandstand.
Great idea. Hope to get there around 4:00. I’ll aim for the tent. My name is Irene Temple. Dark curly haired, mid forties, probably will have a glass of wine in hand and smile on my face. I can’t wait to meet you guys! Sorry, can’t say Richmond is an exotic spot…but we are a fun crowd.
I’ll be dere!!! Natcherly!
I’m thinkin’ that we should all do the “Festus Walk” in support of JSwan and her boo-boo!!! So we can identify each other by us limping. Just walk up to a limping smiling stranger and out yourself! That oughta be fun!!
Who knows you might just meet a non-cother too…yup!
Big Saturday night crowd last night for The Classic. Won (natcherly) by Betty Oare (yawn) with Denise DeRisio Perry in second. Denise got robbed imho but then I’m no horseshow judge - lucky for all!! There was an in/out that caused beaucoup refusals on the second element. Now THAT was fun! And LOTS of bucking after the jump IF they did it. Some clearing it by a mile. It had white poles and hanging flower baskets…musta been invisible snakes in them flower pots or somethin’…bring on the foxhunters! Now we’re gonna have some fun!!

that combo was beyotch!! I’ll go a head and out myself, as the one who hit the dirt:eek:. It walked as a long two-plus a lot of beasties seem to be distracted by the crowd. Mine thought he saw a evil clown midget right as he took off for the second question and put in an extra foot’s worth of effort I wasn’t prepared for-gotta love ex-jumpers:lol:
Sorry I got to the tent late (5:30). You know, there were more than a few women who had challenged ambulation. I could not pick any of you out of the crowd. Folks got more crooked as the night went on. Stayed up way past my bed time on Sunday but it was worth it. Lots of fun! Maybe next time we could wear identifying accesories?
I’m so sorry I couldn’t find you! Several of us wandered around for a while - then it got dark.
Rockfish - I’m also sorry I didn’t see you compete, I only went to Hunt Night. I hope your fall was performed with grace and style.
It was a lovely evening as usual - it was nice to see the memorial for Noel. What a horseman.
Rockfish - there are indeed evil clown midgets at Warrenton - they hide behind the bushes lining the ring. Some people call them children…
Good idea, Beau’s mom - next time we should wear a unique identifier. Again - sorry to have missed you, Trixie and MyGiantPony.
Someone from my barn reports that it was a small hispanic man in a red ball cap…and clown makeup (not really, but the horse thought otherwise), instead of a whippersnapper that caught the old man’s eye:winkgrin:
Now, my next task is trying to bleach all the “I’m sorry mom” green slobbery hug/kisses out of my stock:lol:
Sorry I missed you all!
I stayed at SSR’s house for the weekend. Got up Saturday morning to go run some errands and my truck wouldn’t start. Her awesome Mr. Fix It guy, Thomas, came over and did indeed, fix it, but it was late, so we stayed in for a fabulous dinner. SSR cooked, I baked.
Sunday was fun - the hard thing about it for me is always trying to visit with people I don’t often get to see, and watching the show without being rude and not holding up my end of the conversation.
Were there any hunt teams? I was tired and left before they started, but there aren’t any team results posted.
I loved everybody!!
Well 4 Cothers found each other at the reception tent…eating! We were the 3 with the good hair, cups of free wine and shrimp on our plates! WE tried to get Hunters Rest to share her lovely date with us but she kept him for herself! Figures! Anyway, I haven’t hugged so many people in my whole life! I loved EVERYBODY!!!
Attendance was stellar but entries were very, very light. Due possibly to some horseshow political intrigue that was afoot! Yup, definitely Hunt Night!! Many notables missing!
Ran until like 1:15. Thats A.M.!!
5 men in mens hunter hack that ran around 10:30. 5 in masters class. 6 in the staff class. And then there was the huntsman who instead of opening the “electric gate” stretchy wire (which was a requirement to perform) decided to jump it. About 5 ft high…in the night lights…next to the crowd…coming out of a corner…took out the jump when horse got hindlegs caught…:uhoh::uhoh::uhoh:
Keswick won the night and hunt teams. Penny Denegre( MFH/Middleburg) won the 2 side saddle classes.
Apparently the Warrenton Horseshow board had recently decided to allow non MFHA recognized hunts(outlaw or farmer packs etc) to participate in their hunt night. Some MFH’s were miffed & took their toys/members/trophies & participants and went home. Or didn’t come…boycotted…called their members and told them not to come.
Sure didn’t miss 'em! Huge crowd anyway! More for me to eat & drink!!
Well, Mr. SSR and I were unfortunately kept from participating in Hunt Night this year. His horse got kicked pretty badly on Thurs night/Fri AM, so that when she came in on Friday she had a huge left front leg–we are still dealing with that.
I showed my “baby” horse there on Weds and Fri, but with his horse unable to compete on Sun, I decided to scratch her from Hunt Night, and just concentrate on doing the sidesaddle division with the horse I was catch-riding.
Then, as I was warming up for the sidesaddle division in the schooling ring, my catch-ride colicked! Luckily it was only an impaction colic, so she will be fine. However… She had done the CB division that morning, and had been hanging out all day, and I guess just got dehydrated and a bit stressed out.
I will say though that it was a lot of fun to actually get to WATCH Hunt Night for once–it’s been about 7 years since I had the chance. Sorry I didn’t get to see any of you; I was looking around the tent around 5:15 to see if I could spot anyone when we went to get a glass of wine and some shrimp, but didn’t spot anyone.
I was astonished at the low number of people entered in the 18-30 age group (mine; well, it would have been my last year in it at least), the Gentleman’s Hack, and especially the Corinthian. When we have done the Corinthian the last couple of years, there have been 20-something in it! However, I am just not sure WHY the show ran so much longer this year? From morning to 2 PM, the show office kept telling us it would be a 5 PM start for the ss–and they didn’t walk into the ring until 8:30 PM.
First off, so sorry about your horse! Did you ever find out any more details on the colic?
Secondly, that’s total insanity about the time and gate not being run correctly. I know it’s Hunt Night, but I was there Friday - Sunday (left about 5pm) and saw lots of errors on the lag time. Definitely need someone other than the announcer running the gate. I’ve heard so many complaints regarding the show dragging, I sure hope that gets fixed.
Results available!
Class results are available on horse shows online.com
But I didn’t see the teams posted tho’.
VirginiaBred, the vet said that the mare just didn’t drink enough water (although her owner said she filled up her 5 gal bucket 2x and there was manure in the stall), and then when she got a bit stressed out from being there all day, everything built up and she colicked. They gave her banamine right away, and he cleaned her out, oiled her, and said to give her 3 days off and she will be fine.
Regarding timing at the show, there was often an empty ring during various parts of the days (I don’t mind so much when it is the professional division(s) and they have multiple horses to warmup and show). But Wednesday the last division didn’t end until after 9 PM! Then, on Friday, when I was showing in the A/A’s, we had a posted order of go. I was 3rd. The 1st girl went in, did her warmup, came out, and the 2nd girl was still fooling around in the warmup! Then she finally came out, was joking around, talking to her trainer, then got off to move her saddle up. By this point it had been about 5 min, and we were all glaring at her. The 1st girl finally went in again and just did her 1st trip. The announcer (as much as I like the guy personally) didn’t say one word to her.
Wateryglen, they always seem to do the last upload to the server before the show actually ends. They didn’t have the team results up last year either, which peeved me, as we won!
You have me laughing over the year I showed my tb…why not make Warrenton Hunt Night the first show for a goofy ex steeplechaser! My guy leapt from fear all over the grounds at all sorts of stimuli. Just when the next leap would get me off, he would freeze as if to say ‘oh, I’m scared, get securely back in the saddle so I can leap around some more.’ Then he up and quit in the schooling ring and so going into field hunters I was quite sure I would die of either, well, drowning in the mud or embarrassment. Funny thing- as soon as we started our circle his little light bulb went on and he went ‘Oh. Jump 8 fences. THIS, we’ve done at home!.’ Likewise in the hunt teams. Unfortunately we had NOT schooled getting ribbons at home so when we had to go back in, and the steward REALLY wanted to stand beside us, lined up for the photo, and horse was holding his breath and growing larger by the nanosecond, it wasn’t too much trouble to persuade the steward to move on to the next team!

My friend and I had a spectacular time, though she preferred to actually watch the show rather than socialize  , which is why I had to bail on JSwan and company. We did, however, get to hang out with Trixie for a while before she left to go ride and feed the horses. Unfortunately, she was blocked in by someone else and it took forever for her to escape the show grounds! I am bummed that I didn’t get to see or meet everyone, but hopefully there will be other opportunities!
Thanks WG for explaining why the entries were low in some of the classes. I was telling my friend that there were so many more people last year and I couldn’t understand why the numbers seemed so low and why so many hunts were not represented.
That horse who tried jumping the wire was AMAZING. We were trying to figure out if the rider attempted the jump like that on purpose or if he couldn’t pull the horse up in time. I pray that I have a horse of my own who is so saintly someday!
I was really happy to see Quiet Lass do well in the ladies sidesaddle. I think that mare is such a pretty mover and I would love to what she could do in the dressage ring. They are really a lovely pair.
