LED and/or reflective gear you use for night riding

I am in a position where if I want to ride during the week, with the days getting shorter, I’m going to have to be in the dark. I have looked at all sorts of reflective gear and some LED things. A lot that I have found is made for English tack and I ride western. Also, a lot of things I have found in the UK, but not in the US.

I thought a thick reflective breast collar would be good, but can’t find one on-line that hasn’t been discontinued. I also like the big leg boots (like splint boots) but again, found only discontinued ones. I found this really cool LED tail light, but it, too, was discontinued.

I am looking to see what you COTHers use and have found to work well that may be off the beaten path!

I have a reflective vest that lights up

It’s great, very visible!

I also have these cool rope lights for bikes or strollers that I can velcro to the nose band, tail, anywhere really. They blink and are really bright!

Horze has a lot of reflective stuff/hunters orange. I would link to it but site says it is down for maintenance.

They have a riding rug that I use to walk down the road at night- looks like a horse construction worker vest. Seriously, it is one of my favorite possessions. It goes under the stirrups in my english saddle, not sure how it would work with western. Horze also has reflective leg & tail wraps, breast collar, etc.

Try looking for cop horse things. I found some when looking, but I ended up getting the Horze stuff b/c it was on sale. As Meridith says above, I would bet there is a ton of stuff for bikers that you could use.

My best friend walks home from work in the dark during the winter. She has blinky lights attached to her back pack. How about a headlamp around your helmet? 3M sells stick on reflective tape.

In a pinch, just braiding the glow sticks in the mane and tail helps.

You guys are the greatest - I knew you’d have solutions! I am going to do the headlight-on-the-helmet for sure.

I’ve been trying to find the riding rug, Hyppolita, but can’t find one! I’ll try Horze for that.

I have found some bridle and breast collars, but they were very thin, and I didn’t think would be so effective.

ETA - I have a vest on order - no lights on it, though! Now I wish I had waited before I ordered! No, wait, I’m a horse person…that means I need TWO vests!
