LeMieux Gel-Tek Anatomic Girth?

I’ve been using a 30" Fairfax girth on my mare, and it works well, but is a touch big (purchase for a different horse). Looking for something similar in a 28", the LeMieux anatomic girth looks pretty good, and like it might work with the sheepskin girth covers I have for the Fairfax, while being significantly cheaper.

Has anyone tried this girth and have opinions?

Hi Outerbanks,

I don’t have experience with this particular girth, but I went on a little early pandemic shopping blitz (couldn’t care less about toilet paper :joy:)

I ended up purchasing a lot of LeMieux items (halter, lead, bonnet, pads, etc). Unfortunately they haven’t held up well. Although I can’t comment on the girth quality/fit I’ve decided not to give the brand another shot.

Hope you find a good match for your horse :two_hearts:

Thanks for the reply. I ended up buying one and have been using it for a few weeks. My mare seems a little more touchy than usual around her ribs, but I’ve also upped the ante with her training, so I can’t say if it’s the girth or not. It seems well made and fits nicely. Hopefully it will hold up using the sheepskin covers with it. I do use LM merino pads and they are holding up well.

Glad the fleece is helping out; my mare is sensitive too and changes are always…a process  Thank you for the top on the LM merino pads too. I got the suede version and they haven’t held up well.

Really? I am surprised by this comment especially since you haven’t had the products long.I find my pads and bonnets are amazing quality. I loveeee the pads, but I am meticulous with their care and wash after every ride and put away etc.

Also, I have this girth and I loved it so much I bought another.

Hi Jealoushe,

It might be our hard water :persevere: I purchased a pad, bonnet, halter/lead in the gorgeous red color they came out with Spring 2020 and they’re faded. The halter also had fleece lining and it’s almost totally worn out. My black pad isn’t as faded (I use Woolite dark with it washed solo), but it’s shape is a mess. I lay it out flat and it’s still bending in strange places. I was really excited to get everything, but it’s been disappointing. I will say the stitching has been very good; I’ve gotten things before that have horrible sewing and LM uses strong machines to keep everything in order.

Are you drying it?

It could be the water. I hang mine to dry and they don’t lose shape, but my very first pad I did dry and it shrunk and lost its shape

The black pad did have an unfortunate visit with the dryer once when I didn’t catch by BF in time  That may be the issue

I have the Le Mieux cloth pad in the jumper style, one navy (several years old) and one dark green (this spring). I machine wash luke warm as needed and hang to dry. They are lasting fine.

When I needed a 6 slot fleece shim pad two years ago, my saddle fitter told me that the Le Mieux products used lambskin not sheepskin and were less durable. So I went with a different brand. That one has held up fine, but has never been washed yet, it’s black and used over a cloth pad on one horse only.

When I wash my sheepskin products I only use Melp, in the top load washer on hand wash gentle cold. Then hang to dry. They have all done fine over time.

aww sorry or your loss :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
