What is the salary for this job?
How long before he gets fired?
Once again a secret selection
Is this a thing with him? Genuine question. I have attended clinics so wondering what the firing thing is about.
It’s been a thing with the last couple of chef d’equipes being suddenly fired/resigning.
I think Leslie may have a better chance of longevity in the role than some others. For one, he’s been coaching the development (under 25) riders for quite a long time, so he has both gotten along with TPTB and shown good enough results to stay in that job and then be promoted to this one.
He’s British and has an individual Olympic Gold Medal. That may help with some factions as far as owners and/or riders respecting him.
I have only met him twice, and both times he was the epitome of friendly and helpful. The first time, he gave a XC course walk at Galway Downs in 2003, by donation to the Young Riders group, which I think must have been him just generously doing it because it didn’t seem anyone “put him up to it” - the only people who came were us, three (or four) Canadian riders with our hangers-on! He gave us such detailed hands-on advice, asking about our horses and then tailoring his suggestions.
The second time I met him was this past summer at Rebecca Farm. I was apprenticing for my course design license, and was helping/learning from the show jump designer, Chris Barnard. Leslie walked in as we were taking poles off the cart, smiling, and just started helping out. It was just such a genuine thing - I’m sure he didn’t need to be there, he could have been chilling with friends or students or whatever else.
He’s a great person, I met him first back in 1991, very straight talking and down to earth, I think he’ll be excellent in the job. It comes at a good time I’d say he’s ready to slow down riding wise, I don’t think his wife rides anymore so he would have more time to give to the role.
Mrs. Lesley has been doing jumpers instead of eventing.
I think Leslie is great and wish him the best with this impossible position.
So what you are saying s that we probably saw each other this summer.
Well, shoot, sorry I didn’t say hi! I didn’t get to visit much as I was hanging onto Ian Stark’s apron strings pretty tightly for most of the week
