Lesson barn in Princeton, NJ area?

I recently moved to the Princeton, NJ area and am looking to take some lessons as a horseless adult. It’s been a few years since I have ridden seriously, I previously competed up to 1.40m- I know I won’t be doing that on lesson horses, but looking for somewhere with more than just a beginner program.

I know Redfield is supposed to be great and its an option, but I’m hoping there’s something a little closer to me (live in Plainsboro). Many thanks!

Pretty sure that Hunter Farm in Princeton has a lesson program. At least they used to. Try there.

When I lived in Princeton I really enjoyed training with Neal and Licha Shapiro at Hay Fever Farm in Robbinsville. They mostly cater to people who own or lease, but they do usually have a horse or two available for lessons.

I recommend Hay Fever(the Shapiro’s)! I had a classical background in my earlier years(Hunterdon, etc) and did not think I could find that level of quality again in this area. I now travel an hour to ride there on their horses. The horses are not “school horse deadheads” they have plenty of rpm’s when you are ready for that level. Neal has been working me on the lunge without stirrups and reins and I think that that is the best way to “get back into the groove”. I live in Hunterdon County and have my own farm, but the trek to get there is worth it. They have a good website, check it out hayfeverfarm.com Hope to see your there!
