We offer helmets to our very beginning level riders. We are looking to change our communal riding helmet area. Currently they are stored on a shelf (which is too high and the helmets are unstable on it).I can’t seem to find the perfect heavy duty “helmet holder”. The local tack shops have some helmet display racks with individual “arms” but they don’t look heavyduty enough to me and take up too much room too. I want to take into account protecting our ASTM-SEI helmets with a system that works for both students and the helmets. Help?!?
You could build shelves or cubbies down low?
You could make individual arms out of 4" pvc pipe?
I think the easiest would be some big hooks set at the right spacing and do up their chin straps and hang them upside down.
At home, I have a 2’ section of dowel hung lengthwise about 6 inches from the wall. I just wrap the chin straps around the dowel and clip.
I’ve also seen coat racks hung on the wall for helmets. You need one with decent spacing between the hooks, and decent length hooks. https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/safety-helmets-gloves-hang-rack-construction-331391846
I’d go with cubbies if possible. If you search dugout helmet storage there are some for baseball/softball that would also work for riding helmets. There are even wall hanging pockets with big mesh pockets for helmets like this: https://www.amazon.com/MacGregor-1187038-Helmet-Caddy/dp/B000XEKZ0I/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1530719368&sr=8-7&keywords=dugout+helmet+organizer
The farm where I board uses hooks and hangs the helmets from the back harness.
So it’s OK to hang a helmet from the harness? Thought I read somewhere that was bad so have been avoiding. If it’s really ok that would make things easier at times!
MissAriel you are a genius! Love the baseball helmet caddy. Perfect I think for what we need.
Scribbler - we are with you and not keen on hanging helmets from harness assembly - too tough on the straps and plastic back thingy.
Haha! Not a genius - just a long time t-ball, little league, travel ball baseball mom
When my son was in tball all they made me bench coach because they needed someone to keep track of the kids’ gear more than they needed someone to teach them how to play baseball.
