Lessons

I grew up foxhunting and did my share as an adult, first field and willing to go over anything. But to quote George Lucas, that was long long ago in a galaxy far far away. For many years I’ve been mostly focused on dressage riding, and just a little log or fence from time to time.

As I want to return to hunting, I seriously need some jump lessons. I don’t want to go to the typical lesson barn where everyone is terrified of riding outdoors, much less hunting; I want lessons from someone who knows about hunting and can prepare me.

Do any of you have suggestions? I’m in central Maryland (Montgomery/Howard). Obviously I’m willing to pay what it takes. I would not be bringing my own horse at this point.

I did contact Taylormade, but they didn’t return my call about setting up a firm lesson time.

Any good eventing coach could probably help you.

Dale Proctor at Pleasant Prospect would be a good hunting specialist coach though. I’m told she’s better at returning texts than calls.

Maybe Waredaca?

I will send you a PM with additional contact info for Taylormade. There is no one who knows more about hunting and can prepare you better than Robert.

FWIW, Goshen has two fields at every hunt, so jumping is not a pre-requisite.

Taylormade would be my first choice!

Not sure how far you are wiling to drive, but Destination Farm in Dickerson would also be good. They’re an eventing barn, but can definitely work with you over fences.

I take groups occasionally to Gordonsdale, outside of Berryville. I am an upper level eventer and also a foxhunter of many years… I would love to include foxhunters along with the eventers and eventer wannabees.
