Let me hear your thoughts on Stackhouse saddles!

I’m looking for a new jumping saddle and am very interested in ordering a Stackhouse saddle. I’ve heard great things about their fit and durability. I know each one is custom fit to horse and rider, so they are all a little different. I’d love to hear your experiences with this brand.

I’m also interested in Tad Coffin, CWD, Black Country, County, Devoucoux, and Schleese. Any others I should consider?

I was lucky to pick up a used one and really like it.

I bought one used (which I’ve since sold) and loved it for me. That saddle was seriously like a work of art! Absolutely stunning to look at and probably one of the finest and most comfortable saddles I’ve ever sat in. I tried to make it work for my horse… but it was just built for a different type. It ended up fitting like custom for a friend of mine and her horse, so that was a win in the end. If I had the money to get one custom made for my horse and I now, I would absolutely do it. I’d insist on wool, though, but I know David prefers the foam. The one I had was foam and is the only foam saddle my horse has not vehemently objected to… but I just feel like wool is safer for the possiblity of fitting future or multiple horses.

Thank you both so very much! Very helpful information!!

I have two - both purchased used - and I love them. They fit several different horses very well and they are comfortable for hours and hours of fox hunting.

They are the best thing my tush has sat on/in. I have 3. David has restuffed them too (the proper way, no pushing wads of wool in a hole). They are made very, very well, of the finest materials, in the traditional way. My oldest is 20 years old and is on it’s second generation of horses.

I LOVE mine!
David and Leslie are great to deal with and are super knowledgable!
They are happy to chat and have told me even if I found a used one and wanted to see if it work possibly work for me or my other horse to give them a call. From the serial number on the saddle they can pull up all the info on it and tell you what type rider and horse it would work on the best.

I highly recommend!

I have three–two jumping, one dressage–that were done custom for me. I’m now 50+ and have been eventing since the late 70s, in all that time these are the only saddles that have ever truly fit me. (I have freakishly long thighs.) The difference in my balance and hence security is amazing–even though I alway thought I was riding in pretty well fitting saddles! It’s like someone gave me a seatbelt.

Workmanship is stellar. David and Lesley are wonderful to work with.

Knowing what I know now, I’d eat PB&J everyday for a year if that was the difference in being able to afford one.

Needless to say I’m a big fan.

Very similar to my experience. I bought one used. It was incredibly well balanced for me. It fit my TB for about a year and then it started making him sore. It had foam panels so I opted to sell it on.

I’d love to have another one that was wool.

Love love love love. I have 2.
My jump saddle was made for me and you will have to pry it out of my cold dead hands. Although it unforentially does not come close to fitting my current horse :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Bought a dressage saddle used and Lesley was very helpful-since they already had my measurements and that horse’s measurements they were able to tell me how it would fit and they were dead on. Luckily this saddle does fit my current horse.

I loved my custom monoflap and cried when it didn’t fit my new horse. It’s now making someone else and her horse super happy! Stackhouse is simply the best saddle you can buy – worth every penny!

I had a dressage one. It’s hands down been my favourite saddle to ride in. It fit my perfectly and fit the horse it was made for perfectly, and he was a tough fit. I sold it with the horse it was made for when I sold him. he was a very slab sided TB and was just a bit of a unique fit. Saddle didn’t fit my other horse at the time so the saddle got sold. I still with I had kept it, though I doubt it would fit my current guy.

Love my Stackhouse saddles. I have had several other of the big name French and English saddles and hands down my Stackhouse are the best.

I have an old one that is 10+ years and still going strong (it’s the extra hack saddle now) but I also have two newer monoflap jumping and a new mono flap dressage saddle. I have the two jump saddles to fit different horses. All my saddles are of course fitted to me but are more of a pro fit for all my horses. Love them. The two jump is because one tree is narrow and one medium. Haven’t broken down to buy a second dressage…yet. We fit trees to an assortment of my horses and picked the one that worked best for the most horses. And David built it knowing I would use them on different horses. I’m the one that is harder to fit and I can not stress how much of a difference it makes for my riding to be in saddles that fit ME.

They put me in a great balance. Look beautiful and of course my horses love them.

I will not own anything else.

David changed the tree in my old saddle. It had been a narrow and he changed it to a medium so it would fit more horses. It was pretty affordable to do (compared to a new saddle). Unfortunately it has to be the same tree shape but they can typically go up or down in width by one size.

Beautiful, well made custom saddles. I have 3 dressage, 1xc monoflap and two cc saddles. Leslie and David have dealt with any repairs that were necessary in a professional, timely manner. (not the easiest thing when you live in Canada and need to describe things over the phone!) They have often found very creative solutions to fit problems i.e. saddles slipping forward that worked.

I would never buy anything else. Happy customer.

Just so others can see…this is my new dressage saddle. Yes…I went for dark brown (with blue accents). LOVE it.

Excellent saddles! I have a few for sale if you are looking… www.GallopingGrape.com

I have 3 (one of which I need to sell since the horse I got it for had to be retired, and it hasn’t fit the 2 horses I got after him). I love them. Comfy and very well made.

I adore Lesley and David and enjoyed working with them. That being said, I found over the years that I had trouble maintaining my leg in my XC saddle and was much more secure and stable in a Devoucoux mono flap. I would absolutely work with them again but for where my riding/I am these days, the saddle stopped doing what I need it to do. That being said, it held its value very well for resale.

intersting because I was the exact opposite. I was having trouble with my leg and balance once I was jumping bigger fences in my Voltaire monoflap. Same issue with the Devoucoux that I tried. It is what caused me to call David. In my new Stackhouse monoflap (which is very different from my old Stackhouse saddle) my leg was great and I was comfortable jumping 4’ and schooling prelim+ xc. Made a huge difference for me.
