I’m not looking to move yet/probably soon, just want to get on a waitlist if need be and get my ducks in a row for when it is time to move.
I just read a couple of posts about training/dealing with younger horses and I’d like to have a plan to do training board or at least have more instruction than I currently do in case we need it as my boy gets older, or at the very least to know where to go when it’s time to start showing.
I have a coming 3 year old who was started before I bought him, and a trainer who is able to make it out once a week for instruction. I’m at a nice boarding barn currently but it’s private with no in-house trainer. My worry comes in that I’ve always been at barns that have a trainer present, so I was able to ask questions in passing/get in another lesson/get a training ride if necessary on a whim (and my horse wasn’t even a baby!). I love my trainer, but she can only travel to my barn once a week and has a lot going on as well, which I totally understand. This is just my first time with a baby, and he has not-so-great ground manners that I’d like to get help with. I feel like you need a lot of consistency when you train a baby, and I just don’t have the confidence at the moment to hear what to do one time then mimic it correctly for a week - I don’t want to ruin him either by being too soft or too hard, or doing the wrong thing at the wrong time.
I’d love to find a true H/J barn that has a program, where I could either just take lessons or put him in a training program if need be once he’s starting to learn how to jump. I want to be involved with his training and learn myself, so I don’t want to just send him somewhere. The catch is… I’m a total wimp and an indoor is 100% a must have, even if just covered!
Does anyone know any barns either around Cville (I live on the east side/Keswick so not too far west), or along 64 up to the west side of Richmond with a good program and an indoor?
Thank you in advance!
