Lick mat as a slow feeder?

I have a Chihuahua mix that almost inhales her raw food (the texture is similar to canned food) and I just saw this in a Dr. Judy Morgan email:

Great idea but waaay too expensive. So I was thinking a lick mat that wasn’t too deep would do the same thing. Has anyone else tried something like that to slow their pet’s eating?

I use these: https://www.chewy.com/hanamya-slow-treat-dispensing-dog-cat/dp/344228

Chewy has some good options and they go slower if you freeze it in the lick mat.

Not a lick mat, but I recently switched my dog to a slow feed dog bowl. I got one of these ones from Outward Hound:

They have a few options for sizes and speed (slow, slower, slowest). I got one of the middle speeds (slower) and it just took my dog 12 minutes to eat her meal, approx 3/4 cup dry food, 1/4 cup wet/canned food.

They also have this, which seems to be closer to what you are describing:

Good luck!

I have these from PetSmart:
https://www.petsmart.com/dog/bowls-and-feeders/food-and-water-bowls/top-paw-grey-puzzle-slow-feeder-dog-bowl-0.75-cup-70738.html?fmethod=Search for when Lilly was little and I keep one in the freezer with peanut butter to distract when I dremmel nails now.

Thanks everyone! I ordered a pair of suction-backed lick mats from Amazon where the indentations aren’t too deep. Her food can easily be smeared and her little muzzle shouldn’t have a problem reaching anything. If it doesn’t work out it’ll be useful in keeping her occupied when getting a bath. The Outward Hound one in a previous post is similar to the expensive one in terms of the surface and I’ll try that next if mine doesn’t work.

I could never feed this dog raw meaty bones. The Steve’s frozen nuggets when defrosted will be perfect for the mat.

It worked!! Instead of inhaling her food in five seconds, it took her a good ten minutes to lick out every speck of food.
